Just over a €80 a month. So, no. You'll be paying practically no tax.

You can do alot with a 100 quid more in your pocket, if you are desperate to work then take it but keep looking for something more interesting.

As Lux23 said, €400 per month should make a big difference. Even if it was less of a difference, I can't imagine choosing being on the dole over having a job.

Rent Allowance, Medical card, Back to school payments if you have kids.

Fair point - what I meant is that even if you only came out a little ahead after all the benefits, I would take a job over taking the dole.

After the Budget in December, its likely you will be paying more income tax. Is there any chance of career progression with the job?

How on earth is somebody supposed to raise a family, provide for them, etc on that salary?? Granted you may not be at that stage yet, but may be someday.

For someone with a family, as has already been said, they would probably be better off on benefits

Is'nt that below minimum wage? I'd have to think long and hard before working for that sort of wage.

Dole is only ever likely to do down..
Work will go up over time, assuming you do the job, and gain more experience (i.e. become more valuable to a company)

Which would you prefer to be on 20 years from now?

Am no minimum wage is €17, 457 per year.

    yea, well done..

Even if this job does not pay much, over time you will get paid more and gaining work experience is even more valuable.

Stick with it, work hard and do your best, in a year to 18 months maybe you move to another company for more money and better perks [etc]? Thats how the real world works...

I just got redundancy from my old job,i got a nice pay off,i would only take this job on a short term basis to plan my next move or go abroad.

Think of it as a learning experience.
Work at getting experience on verifiable, transferable and generic skills and try to avoid specialised skills which tie you to only one company.

Try and get courses if you have time as the company may pay out for them if they see a benefit. A lot of vocational courses are only available to people already in relevant jobs.

Talk to the experienced, higher paid people you get to work with and find out if you can how they got to their position. Bear in mind that people may overstate the difficulty of their courses and qualifications out of pride or wanting to keep newcomers out of their "patch". If you show a genuine interest in a particular field of work most people will tell you how to progress into it.

If you get a chance, talk to your immediate superiors up the chain of command, show interest and positivity and they may let you know how to enter a higher rung in the job. This will take time but may be a way forward. Showing negativity and jealousy about peoples pay, conditions etc is a highway to nowhere and will lead to a dead end position.

Dont worry. It will be a lot more than the dole once Lenihan lays into social welfare.

Someone with a family on that wage would likely get Family Income Supplement on top of child benefit. And as has been said already, gaining experience in a job now rather than sitting on the dole will open up more options for better paying jobs in the future.
