Best / most unexpectedly positive reaction?

To counter the "worst reaction" thread, let's have a "best / most unexpectedly positive reaction" thread!

When I told my Dad that I was transgendered, he was totally accepting. I started, of course, by saying that I was crossdressing, socialising as female etc. He was completely accepting. So, I decided to up the ante.

I told him that along with my new-found gender identity, I was discovering an interest in men. He was even cool with that!!! So, I decided it was time to pull out the ace card.

"I've applied to Loughlinstown hospital for hormone treatment and a gender change".

"Well, I hope you get it"

I should give some background - my Dad had watched me lose 20Kg in 6 months, and he had seen me become generally much happier. So he knew something was up, and he knew it was positive.

Of course, when I got home (and recovered from my own shock), the questions began to sink in - did he really understand what it was I was saying, and was his reaction one of just being politically correct?

I can happily report that he does understand, and he wasn't being politically correct - he was being genuine.

    :D

My friends were a pleasent suprise. Granted they are female, they even offered to help me transition and get through the social change. Makes me look forward to it, but like most I have one final hurdle with respect to having people to tell as my family will be the last I tell.

I have a catholic mass card congatulating me on my transition and telling me there was a mass being said for me.
When it came in the door I thought it was a 'we'll pray for your sins' kind of mass card. but no!

ill never understand this.........im not trying to offend anyone but if your a man and you like men you can be gay why to you have to do somthing so........well i have no better word than disgusting .........it really just seems like the only reason could be that your all attention seekers.......and i dont understand how changing into looking like a woman with a penis helps you get men......are these men gey or what.......its very confusing........have any of you tried talking to a phsychiatrist first to make sure your not just a bit messed up before doing somthing so ridiculous that will change your lives forever.....

as i said im not trying to offend anyone but the worst thing i could think of calling somone is a tranny........and you want to become that.....i just cannot fathom what your thinking

Everyone's reaction to my coming out as bi has been really positive. I come from an urban, working class area and homophobia (or at least perceived homophobia) is rampant.

When I told each one of my friends I was bi, their reactions were usually a short silence followed by a "so?"

It just really startled me at the time is all, I was expecting fights, abuse and the loss of friends, but if anything it has strengthened our friendship a helluva lot more.

EDIT: My Dad's reaction was similar, he started laughing "and were ye really that nervous telling us? Jesus, I may be 50 but I'm not going to stone ye to death. Live yer life, son!"

Also, the amounts of "Oh my God, Me Too! in college were truly frightening in a good way!

It's not something that comes about, just because one is gay. I'm a straight male and I'm not ruling anything out, but my sexual preferences may not change. Seeing a Psychiatrist and Counsellor is mandatory before one can obtain a sex change to determine ones certainty.

I hate to sound like an ass, but please do two things for me. Fix your grammar, it makes you look like an angry teen. Finally, a person who seeks Hormone Replacement Therapy can also go back to being a man as long as they are pre-op.

You can not fathom our way of thinking, the Internet is a resource with vast amounts of information to educate yourself with. Now lets stick with the topic of discussion shall we.

Transgender really used to confuse and freak me out in the past. But when you start talking to transgender people it does start to make sense.
You probably think that "trannies" are gay men who decide to become women to get men (That's what I used to think :o ) when in fact the best way to look at a transgender person is to look at them with a physical birth defect.

They are a woman who has been given a man's body. Imagine if you woke up tomorrow with a woman's body. It would be horrible.

I think the best reaction you can get is if people genuinely don't care and continue to treat you the same way.

I've been lucky to have this reaction from a lot of my friends.

EDIT: Oh and my aunt, who took me by surprise. She was drunk at a family function and just said out of the blue, "I love you, no one cares anymore if people are gay or not. I hope you find someone special."

There's plenty of threads here from people who've shared their feelings and thoughts and explain, very eloquently, what they're thinking. What I can't fathom is much simpler: Why are you coming in to this forum with such bigoted views? It's your second post today. One more whiff and you're gone.

since I'm pretty sure you're just trolling and have no intention of getting any serious answers, I'll just share something with you that will confuse you even further

I'm not interested in men, at all :)

I've had one really positive reaction when I came out to a friend online. He hadn't seen me in a while and I showed him a recent pic and he said "wow, you'll make a great chick!"

I was on a high for ages after that, told him it was the best compliment anyone had ever payed me :D:D

My Dad's reaction took me by surprise, he's a pretty conservative guy, and in discussions before I came out he would have been very vehement in his opinions about gay people not being normal. now, nothing nasty, and he'd always be the 1st person to get disgusted by violence or whatever, but he wasn't exactly an ally...

but when my mum told him (i was too chicken :o) he just accepted it, nothing major said apart from one comment about how i shouldn't do anything to embarass the family- he'd seen one too many tv shows where all the lesbians have shaved heads and are angry man haters ) My mam told me afterwards that he told her he thought i was really brave and a strong person to do something that makes me happy, even though i risk discrimination and stuff. :)

I don't doubt it, but let's see if we can educate you anyway.
if your a man and you like men you can be gay why to you have to do somthing so........well i have no better word than disgusting
First, you are assuming that the reason why I'm transitioning is to attract men. Let's see if we can get at least one idea into your head - my transition is about me, and no-one else. I'm doing this for me, and not so that I can attract a partner!

Second, I hope you would agree that it is "disgusting" for a woman to have a penis.
have any of you tried talking to a phsychiatrist first to make sure your not just a bit messed up before doing somthing so ridiculous that will change your lives forever.....
We are required to see a psychologist before we embark on transition.
as i said im not trying to offend anyone but the worst thing i could think of calling somone is a tranny
Then please don't call me a tranny. I am a woman or, if you must qualify it, a trans woman.
and you want to become that
NO I DO NOT! I do not "want" to be trans.

    GOT IT?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Hey smallBalls. Reiterating my first point in a previous post, learn how to use grammar correctly. ixoy isn't threatening you either, your behaviour warrents such action. Yes there is two sides to each story, please educate yourself before expressing said opinion and maybe if you act in a mannerly/respectful fashion next time you may receive a reply more fitting to said attitude.

You don't have to like 'trannies' or 'gay' people, but expressing that opinion in a more respectful manner would be appriciated. Any how, this isn't what this thread is for so, start a new one or take else where, but I can't force you so I can only encourage to act in an adult like manner.

Ok - No need to respond anymore to denballs -

    EDIT

I've just deleted a response to denballs, there is no point in responding to him anymore because a) he is banned b) he's trolling and c) it's off topic

My mum's reaction: "Well, that was the worst kept secret in the history of everything."

My sister's reaction: "I kinda guessed. Now can you please go and tell my friend where she can get a rainbow flag for her bedroom?" (her best friend is bi, leaning towards women)

Yeah, I thought so. And one then said, "Oh yeah, I'm bi. Did I never mention that?" It was awesome.
