I have to ask, why are you using NPRN messages?

    What synth are you using?

a shruti-1. I want to record arpeg pattern changes into a song.

you could set your daw to record the changes, play them manually and edit any mistakes,

nrpn is midi's evil torturous side, i only had to use it once for a yamaha DJX, eventually gave up and decided to play it instead.

getting the right order for the 2 part message is a russian roulette game, the device you're looking to control, its manual might offer insight, but you'll probably have to delve as deep into your DAWs manual too, quick tip, go to the daws midi filter options and set it to allow nrpn message through so you can record them.

unfortunately the midi out on the shruti doesn't work, so i can't send nprn from it. thanks. i'll probably just record the different arpegs separately and stitch them together.
