Connecting iPod Touch to a heart rate monitor:

    Hi,

I have been thinking about buying a Nike+ sensor for use with my iPod. Although I would also like to use a heart rate monitor too.

I've been looking into it and as far as I can see, the Nike+ only works as a pedometer, unless you also buy a Polar heart rate monitor, but even then it won't connect to the iPod Touch, only to iPod Nono's...

It also seems to measure Kcal's burned through the pedometer and doesn't take into account your heart rate, which is a major flaw as far as I can see... (I know even with the HRM it's just an estimate but I'd prefer an accurate estimate than a total guess...)

So I've also had a look into buying a MiCoach from Addidas, but again, I'm even less familiar with this than the Nike+. Does it support iPod Touch? Can it be used with a heart rate monitor?

I'd be looking to use the HRM for both running and gym work, so a pedometer alone wouldn't really be any good for me.

If anyone has any in site into this I'd be great full.
    Thanks,
    H2DC

Sounds pretty specialised info you are looking for H2DC. I'd throw the net out a lot wider, manufacturer websites, Apple's own forums etc. You just might be waiting a long time for someone with a set up that you want info on.

Hi there, I've had a look in Nike forums, from what I can see a lot of people aren't happy with the Nike+ setup and Apple/Nike seem to be stringing people along with a lot of empty promises - I'm still not even sure if the heart rate monitor works on an the iPhone / iPod Touch, as far as I can see it's just the iPod Nano...

I've had a look on the Addidas website, which looks a bit more promising but still scarse on details...

All in all, they're not doing a great job of selling their products to me :/

I thought I saw an add on the nike + website for a nike + heart rate monitor. Have you checked there? Dont think it was a polar one

Hi godtabh, that was the setup I was looking into, the only problem is, it only works with the iPod Nano, won't work with the iPod Touch...

    Here's the website:
    http://inside.nike.com/blogs/nikerunning_news-en_EMEA/2010/07/01/introducing-a-new-way-to-track-your-heart-rate-progress

Also, no news on whether they even plan to release it on the iPod Touch...
