Lately when I turn on my computer, sometimes AVG (full version) dosen't automatically turn itself on.
A few times now I've been caught out and have been browsing for a while before getting a warning that I'm not protected .
Have to check all my settings now every time I start up.
Anyone else got this prob or know about it. ?????

make sure that its starting as a service - automatically - and that it's a startup item (check both in (msconfig)

    Hi..Thanks for the reply,
Checked both service & startup and its there alright. All settings seem in order.
This only happens sometimes which is why I'm curious.
    Hmmm!!!

Possibly virus/malware fighting with AVG and disabling it.

Shhh.. I'm not going to think about that. ;)

It hasn't happened in the 2 weeks since I posted the question. If it does happen again I'm gonna consider a new AV.
    Thanks for the reply. :D

    You're welcome.

Far be it from me to recommend something Microsoft as I am far from pro them but Microsoft Security Essentials is free and has detection rates as good as the best.

You could even just install that one and disable the real time protection, then at least you have 2 av's opinions rather than 1.

    Best of luck with it.

a reinstall of avg and rootkit detection is in order as well as trying another security suite. It could be that the anti virus won or the malicious code won. It could be spoofing the protected/enabled status and i wouldn't trust it either way. If you just looking up news fine. If you've seen the state of the art credit card sniffing botnet applications, you'll want to take the extra precaution

If you are going to look at it like that then the only way to guarantee Windows is clean is to reinstall.
