    Hi All,

I'm going for one week to Italian lakes.

We will be staying at Lake Lugano. Plan to visit Milan and lakes around.
    We will rent a car.

Any advice what interesting to visit? Practical suggestions?

    Thanks

Drive around Lake Garda and stop in Limone and Sirmione. Limone is staggeringly beautiful and Sirmione has a castle in the lake that must be seen to be believed.

I would advise not doing this. Garda, while beautiful itself, is too far to drive for too little different to what is on your doorstep.

Instead tour Lake Lugano and Lake Como. Como the town also. Do go in to Milan. See Duomo, Castello Sforzesco and museums, Brera gallery, La Scala, and fine shopping. If you want to visit another lake, you are much closer to lake Maggiore. Very nice. Visit its islands, Stresa etc.

just to let you know, the train in milan goes direct to the train station in como town, so when you step outside the trainstation across the road is where the ferry docks and that ferry stops at all the major points on the lake during its journey north

bellagio is around centre point in the lake and the most famous of the lakeside towns.

There are at least two train stations in Milan for Como.
Stazzione Centrale: The EC train to Zurich stops in Como. It cost about 22 € return fare.
Gabrialdi (or similiar) The local train leaves from here. It is cheaper, has more stops and thus slower.

If you are going to Milan in August for things other than the main tourist things it might be worth contacting the place in advance. Lots of Italians from Milan (not quite sure of the term:)) close down for August and go on holidays.

Grande grazie for all your coments.

    We've had wonderful time.
This place is beautiful. Food, wine and coffee fantastico.

We explored both Lake Lugano and Como. Every little village or city was so
amazing so we even didn't bother to go to other lakes. Maybe next time.

    Thanks!
