Just thought I would share this with boards. It's probably sorted by now *hopefully* but about 20 minutes ago when the rain started coming down heavy, I drove past a garda car outside Tesco's a Clare Hall at the right lane for turning towards Donaghmede. There was a horse grazing on the divider between either side of the road! I was dropping a friend home from football.
Coming back the same way, a caddy van tried pulling in front of me while I was in the bus lane for turning left going back onto the same road.
I beeped and he stayed put when he realised he never checked his blind spot. 30 seconds later, the horse is now on this side of the road, breaks free from the police, darts in front of my car, I swerve to avoid. The van however I mentioned earlier, does not. He clips the horse, the poor animal goes flying, but seems to get back up. The vans windscreen is totally smashed in.

And he continues to drive.

Iv'e only been driving 4 years now and Iv'e been very lucky not to have been in any accidents or near misses, but this was fairly scary, I have no idea what the gardaí where trying to do, but the road should have been closed off or something. They clearly just sent an extra squad car over and literally chased the horse around with what looked like some kind of thick white flat ropey stuff from what I could see. The rain was very heavy and it could have, and may already have caused a much more serious accident.

I'm convinced the van driver was drunk, but the gardaí genuinely seemed totally unable to handle the situation.

Anyway, hopefully nothing happened anyone or any further injury to the horse, but jesus it was fairly random and caught me off guard totally. One of the other people that was still in the car with me said there was quite alot of damage to the van, but he seemed to keep on going? :pac:

That was a close call, you can never be wary enough out there when driving about, what the fella in the van did after hitting the horse
    very odd!

Mark it down to a motoring adventure!

You never know, he might have got a shock from clipping the horse and just wanted to get out of there.
It's hard to know how you'll react in a collision until you've been in one.

Well done for controlling your car and being totally aware of the situation developing, and, also for being aware of other drivers positioning and their reactions. That's excellent an observation skill as far as I'm concerned.

A scare can be a nasty thing… and it’s always 5 to 10 mins after the actual event you really begin to think of ‘what might have happened’ that’s when the shakes kick in!! :D

    Good driving,
