Clear PVC rain-coat / trench

Hey y'all. I have a very specific idea of what I want in a raincoat; I've been googling and ebaying away but can't find anything that's quite right and not insanely expensive (for a plastic mac).

I want a clear (or cloudy clear, but not coloured) plastic / PVC knee-length raincoat with buttons and a belt and preferably a hood. It should be quite close fitting to the body and with the emphasis on chic rather than practical. What I'm picturing is kinda vintage, though it itself doesn't have to be.

I adore this but it seems rather steep at 100+ euro... though maybe this is what I'll have to pay?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

I never thought id say this about a raincoat...but WOW...its cool! Although id want to have won the lotto to justify €100+ on one :D

I have seen one think high street, it was in the style of a trench coat, and had black lines I think at the edges and stuff. I'll try and remember and if anybody else knows the one I'm on about

    EDIT:

that's it, it's topshop. dunno if they still have it though. mighn't be what you had in mind either

    Hey Sinead,
I saw that little black stripey beaut while I was doing my googling - it's not exactly what I'd had in mind but it's fabulous anyway - but it seems to be out of stock in Topshop / anywhere else. If you've any suggestions on where I might be able to pick one up, that'd do nicely!

Anniehoo - thanks for the words of agreement :-D Alas I haven't won the lotto yet either... perhaps it's time to hit the scratchcards.

    http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=true&catalogId=33057&storeId=12556&categoryId=209744&parent_category_rn=208526&productId=1820806&langId=-1

Doubt my copy & pasting will show pic/link properly but topshop.com, get ready for winter, coats, clear plastic cape . . . available in all sizes at mo!
Saw it earlier & wished I was brave enough to wear . . .

To be honest I dont think the coat they have is the style you want:

    its here on their website:

Hey all, thanks for the suggestions so far but none are quite right - the closest is that first one from Topshop, but I can't find that available anywhere.

Pandora's Twist - do you have a link to the ASOS one you saw? I couldn't find any on here

May yet find myself shelling out for the Mannittoni...

I think this is the one on ASOS they're talking about.

Thanks Michelle (you're super helpful, helped me on another thread of mine too, cheers!)

I like that one on ASOS though again it's not quite what i'm looking for, I'd prefer something more closely fitted and with a belt..

Maybe I should just get over it and get one of those more reasonably priced ones, though. Find it so hard to justify 100 hard-earned yo yos on a bit of plastic.

I know what you mean but you'd spend that on a trench coat or a dress for a wedding thatd you'd only wear once. In this country (especially lately) something like that mac you would get sooooo much wear out of it. Its also not tacky looking and if i saw someone wearing one id deffo look twice. So although it sounds pricey for a raincoat you would definitely use it more than a handful of times so id justify it that way.

A friend bought a plastic mack in Guineys in Nt earl street off O'Connell St.
She paid less than a tenner!!!
It is functional but does the job and as she says herself she has to economise with the recession.

yeah I really like the topshop one. you'd only be able to get one if they brought it back in stock they do that with some popular stuff but probably not.

I really like the asos one! I like the little flicks on it, and you could probably just stick a belt on it :)

    I want a clear raincoat now... :(

    Deadly site

LOL, just for the record, I hadn't yet clicked past the page of raincoats - not such a fan of their 'other' merchandise!! ;) But feck it, the coats are great, i think i might go for the 1940s one, 55 pounds.

Ah sure a kinky pvc trench could be both bedroom and winterwear

Suddenly this thread is taking an unexpected turn; i must be very naive that it hadn't even occurred to me that a pvc raincoat would be kinky!!!

Maybe I should ask the b/f to split the cost of it with me ;)

I know the OP was looking for a clear mac, but maybe this might be of use for some others. Primark in the UK have brought in a range of plastic macs in blue, pink and green - see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120606125922&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:1123 for the blue one.

I haven't seen this yet in Penney's here (tried Dundrum & Nutgrove), but perhaps they'll land in the Irish branches soon. Enjoy...

I'll answer my own question! Reduced from €13 to just €3 each in Penney's in Blancharrdstown today. A smallish selection of green and dusky pink on a rack. Sure at that price, you've nothing to lose!

Sorry, I only saw this now! I'm afraid I didn't look at the time but I might be back in there tomorrow so I'll check it out then.

Edit: Haha! See you already answered your own question. Next time I'll read the thread properly ;)
