diesel car but only have between €1000 - 1200

Brother needs a diesel car, but hasnt much to spend anybody see any bargin diesel for around the 1000 mark or should i tell him to try and save up a bit more to give him more options?

if he doesn mind getting an older car the 2.0 diesel corolla are a very very good reliable car, had one in a van shape and can say nothing only praise it!!

i dont lad sorry, im guessing you'v looked at donedeal.ie ya? they are starting to get a bit rare think its the 92-96 shape model and expect to pay around 1000-1200 for a 995-96 one, prob cheaper too. there isint much to go wrong in them really! just the usual servicing and at that it doesnt hurt them to go past there service intervals, alto obviously recomended:D

just check for rust as a lot are english import

to be honist i never owned or drove one to say yes or no but i know people who have owned them and never herd them complaining about them, maybe someone on here might be able to answer that question for ya

Turbo diesel avensis is the way to go !! 99/00 model for betwwen 1k and 1500. Stick to something jap if your going diesel imo

Apart from needing a starter motor its been faultless.

I have a 2001 2.0 TD (90hp) they stopped selling them in mid 2000, but mine sat around till January 2001 for some reason. The D-4D that came out in 2000 has 110hp but are more prone to problems as they are common rail and have a dual mass flywheel. The old TD engine is based on the one from the Carina E and is very simple and reliable.

You should be able to pick up a very clean low mileage 00 for about 2500-2750. The Avensis came out in 1997, so a 97-98 should be in your price range.
Also consider a last-of-the-line Carina E, they have about 83hp but are lighter than the Avensis. 96-97 models generally came in SL trim which has a few goodies.
