Corrupt download. Try getting it via Software Update instead.

Can't. My software update NEVER works. It always freezes at the very beginning...

    Okay, try the following:

You need to delete a file called "com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist". There's probably two of them.
    - The first is in Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences.
    - The second is in HD > Users > [You] > Library > Preferences.

Also, go to HD > Library > Updates. Delete any files that are inside.

Then restart and see if it works.

I deleted those "com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" files but I have loads of stuff in the updates folder. You sure it's okay to delete them all?!

Yep, get rid of everything in the Updates folder.

Upgrading iTunes shouldn't cause problems with jailbroken iphones though

If are you on 10.6.4? Should make sure your system is up to date, esp if using iOS4

Yes, but surely should not affect it

Did an itunes re-install and it worked OK, then re JB

Plugged it in today and once again would not find it.

Tried a restore and I was getting a 1611 error

Removed Itunes again, did a full re-install and it then found in phone DFU mode and restored to 3.1.2

Have not JB yet and am gonna keep an eye on it.

I may upgrade to OS4 as it basically does everything JB does
