Oooh, as tempting as it is to able to stay in the Castle for €20 for a night, I think I'll just stick with my own bed in my house two minutes down the road :P

I was there once before for a spa day. There is a pool as far as I remember but not really a 'swimming' pool if you know what I mean. Not sure what you'd call it - it's not rectangle, you couldn't do lenghts in it. Probably not explaining too well!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,332 ✭✭✭tatli_lokma

just came back from a night there last night for €19.75.

No breakfast is not included, they expressly point this out on the booking form.

you have full access to the thermal spa - it is not a pool in the sense of having a swim, it is a hydrotherapy pool - basically it has various different jets around it which act to massage you. There is a steam room, laconium, heated beds to lounge on, outdoor jacuzzi - all this is included in the price. You have to pay for any treatments.

Myself and the hubby have been a few times on this offer - we always love it. Less than €20, and you get a really relaxing day, nice hotel, bit of a break from it all, and very close to Dublin.

You can have breakfast there for €12.50 per person. So even at B&B its less than €65 total price, which for that hotel is a great price.

We had dinner in Da Panza italian restaurant - really lovely, not "cheap" at the weekend, but standard prices and very nice food. We paid €85 for 1 starter, 2 mains (one of which was steak), 2 desserts and a bottle of wine.

Dunboyne castle also do a stay for free on sunday offer - if you pay €130 (I think) in the hotel your room is included for free. If you were to have dinner and a few drinks or breakfast and dinner it would easily cover the €130.

This is a fantastic offer for this class of hotel and we really had a nice time.

Keep an eye out for gig offers too - thanks to boards we got €25 pps for entrance to a comedy gig on Paddys night and overnight accommodation. Tickets alone were €15, so it was definitely a bargain!

why ? its not the sort of pool suitable for kids, its a spa, over 16s, which is fair enough - its not a children's environment.
There is nothing to stop you staying with kids and not using the spa facilities.

They by no means prohibit kids! they have a family offer:
Enjoy a 2 night getaway break with your children at Dunboyne Castle. We are offering you the chance to enjoy seperate bedroom accommodation (min & max 2 children) along with breakfast each morning and dinner for everyone on the evening of your choice. All for a total of €290

There's no available dates to select on the link, do you need to call them to book or does that mean they're sold out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭Waesfjord

Dublin Bus goes to Dunboyne Village, dunno the number.

Hotel is only about 400m out the Maynooth road, an easy walk.

Did this last year. We both got massages in the spa that cost that, and then stayed for free. Was very nice!

I got this also, as a returning guest. A bit more expensive, but Brekkie inc, and its for 2 nights (so basically €105, 2 nights B&B instead of €36 room only, 1 night).

Just booked it for the Oct Bank hol - looking forward to it!

    Enjoy! :)

Just spend the night here on the €19.95 pp deal, had a fab time. Hotel and grounds are beautiful. Ate in the little Italian on the main street, quite expensive but well worth the treat the food was fab! Didn't get breakfast in the hotel, but visited the mint leaf a little restaurant opened for breakfast and it was the nicest breakfast I have had in a long time. Scrambled egg, salmon, slice of home-made bread, with tea/coffee/orange juice only €8.50.

The same thing happened to me last year, they shot the price up for the wedding to 165 euros. I went and found it on Alpharooms for 100 euros in the end! :D

I just did a quick check there and found it on Yeegoo (It's not on Alphrooms any more) for 130 euros, a nice little saving of 45 euros. You should let your mates going to the wedding know :)

is there any check up to see if you have stayed for a previous night? or is it safe enough to book using this even if you have not stayed there before?

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Hmmm. I doubt they'd check up, I've never stayed there before anyway. I'm sure it'll be grand.

no they don't check - the first time I stayed was via a referral from boards, which someone got as a previous guest. I've now stayed there 3 times on similar offers and now get the mailing list for similar ones.
I've not paid more than €19.75 so far!

One word of warning though, be careful with the mini-bar. it is a computerised one, so as soon as you take something out or even move it, it bills to the room. First time I stayed I didn't realise, and tried to make some room for my emergency bottle of water for the hangover! the next day they tried to charge me over €30 for the mini bar, but I just got them to check that nothing had been taken and it was fine. Next time I stayed I asked them to empty the mini bar before arrival (thinking in advance of my large bottle of water for the hangover! :D), they didn't empty it, and when the guy came up to do it, we realised that half the bottles and cans in it were empty and had been put back! and still when I checked out they tried to charge me for emptying the mini bar! Over €150  It was all sorted easily, but if you fancy bringing a bottle of something with you to have in the room, then be VERY careful about the mini bar!

its based on double or twin room, so I would imagine that if you want a room on single occupancy, you would have to pay €39.50

    ...edit to add
just checked there, if you choose single occupancy its €39.50, so basically its a room only rate of €39.50

    Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate if anyone receives this or similar offer for October if you could let me know?? Going to a wedding there, staying the night for €20 would be nice, don't live too far away but taxi would still cost more!! And to use the spa etc in the morning would help clear the hangover!!
    Cheers,
    Eims

We were there recently and thought for the location and expectation, the food was ok, not great, not bad, but just not as good as you'd like to have in a place like that. I think burger was 16 quid in the bar, and you'd definitely have better value at one of the new stylish burger bar places. Restaurant similar, just about ok. That's just my opinion though.

Breakfast, however, was very good. Plenty of choice, and a huge spread of the usual array of cereals, mini-pastries, and the cooked stuff, but nice extra touches too like nuts and dried fruit to add to your cereal.
