It's mad how a fiver can make you stop and think. I guess I'll wait and see with this one then.

€10 with no online, no problem. €15 with no online...hmmm.

Because €15 is 50% more than €10, the i paid €15 for 1943 and close to that for fat princess+fat roles, i won't get anywhere near the same amount of time out of this and the quality is not so far above to negate that.

Yeah it's a bit steep for a local co-op or even something that looks like it will last 4 hours.

Day 1 purchase for me, on PSN at firsy but probably get it onXBLA too as i only gots 1 pad for PS3 and 4 for the 360. I dont mind the offline co-op, games like this HAVE to be played with people sitting beside ya. How else will you punch them when they knock you into a pit on your last life??

Also WTF at 0:59????? Is that Knives kissing Kim in the foreground?

    Good music is good :pac:

Hopefully this will be as fun as the books. Last book, incidentally, has just been released, must pick it up tomorrow if I can!

Scott Pilgrim: a fun, light-hearted and honest celebration of geekdom. Curious to see if it translates to film and game too!

Can't wait for the game. Has the 6th book been released over here yet? Know it came out in in the US/Canada yesterday, will have to have a look for it today/tomorrow in town if it's out here.

EDIT: rang forbidden planet there, apparently they won't be getting it in until next wednesday

Yeah was in town there and checked most of the bookshops but nowhere had it. Waterstones gave a publishing date of tomorrow though, although the guy at the counter doubted they'd actually have it in.

Oh well, amazon it is then :pac:

Also noticed in IGN's preview of the game that Ramonas hair DOES change colour as you progress through the game.

Yeah given that central plot lines in the book feature Amazon, it only feels fair to order from them!

    *adds to basket*

Also, there's a free IPhone game called Scott Pilgrim's Punch Out or something out now. It's, well Punch Out with Scott Pilgrim!

Well if the person who delivers the book is female it's your duty as an SP fan to ask her out there and then

I ordered the last book too, can't wait to read it. I'm seriously thinking of getting the game on both PSN and XBLA...is that insane?!

Considering you haven't played it yet, a little, but if it's fun, why not?

Good point. I'll take it back a little...if it's good, I might get it on both!

Waterstone's in Jervis had a few copies of volume 6 in today, picked one up, there were 2 copies left after that, no idea if they'll be there tomorrow but there must be at least a couple more shops with copies somewhere in the city!

So this should be out in a few hours :)

I eagerly anticipate some pseudo-retro fun.

Got a great review on Joystiq. Will be picking it up.

Still no word if they're adding online co-op?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

    *sigh*

Silly Sony, cant they just update the PSN already, they put the RDR update out yesterday, couldnt they have got everything lined up for today and ready to go while working then and just flip the switch this morning.

Oh well, to the 360 and Monday Night Combat :D

    So who's getting it?

Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on it. It looks like a very good homage to old 8-bit games, with plenty of humour.

    EDIT: Shag! Just saw this.

I played through the demo (from the US PSN), it's good fun. Very similar to Castle Crashers, I suspect it'd more fun (and much easier) in multiplayer.

Loads of cameos in the background, I recall seeing Wallace, Joseph and Knives' Mum. There also appear to be
    two secret character slots
    .

Completed world one there, very good fun. The music, graphics and presentation in general are great. Very tricky and unforgiving gameplay, which is what you what from this retro style ;).

Mostly great for the comic fans so far: as said above, most of the Pilgrim characters have cameos (from Young Neil to Knives' friend whose name I forget!). Plus, lots of gaming references
such as giant dollar boxes and shortcuts. Favourite bits so far were accidentally stumbling into a subspace highway and fighting shutter shaded hipsters

This looks like a good laugh, how much is it?

I saw a movie magazine yesterday and on the cover it said Scott Pilgrim vs The World and a picture of Michael Cera as Scott. I guess they are making a film of it?

What kinda comic was this anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

Its €10, a fairly tough game too.

It is based of a series of 6 small graphic novels by an artist in Canada about a 20 something who tries to get it on with a girl but has to defeat her 7 exes first. the whole world plays out as if it was a game with the same conventions (extra lives, stamina bars, enemies turning into coins). Fairly funny and great if your trying to grow up in this genertaion as a gamer (only physically, if any of us ever matured mentally we would dump all our games in an instant :D )

The film is out in America on Friday but 2 week wait for us, Edgar Wright (Spaced, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) is directing and has been getting great reviews so far.

I read there is no drop in/out co-op. If you start a game with 2 players, does the game save after every level, certain points? Doe you have to continue the next level with 2 players or do you have to start again for a 1 player game?

Just had a lengthy co-op session there with a friend and there's no drop in drop out. There's a world map at the start (basically a homage to the Mario one) and that's your core. When you start the game, you have the choice of singleplayer or co-op ('press start' menu, up to four players). Whatever you have unlocked in singleplayer is playable and co-op - I carried on from world 2 with a friend from my singleplayer file, if that makes sense. But yes, if you're playing singleplayer you have to exit out of the game to the main menu to get someone else to join in, which is a wee bit annoying.

Some co-op features worth noting: you each have three lives, but when you're knocked out the other player has 10 seconds to revive you. However, this takes a few seconds of pressing O and the enemies can interrupt you at any time. Still makes it far easier in co-op, although definitely call Knives before you start reviving, it will give you valuable seconds! Also, when one player gets game over they become a ghost. If the other player has a live to spare, they can choose to give it to the dead one. Handy, but definitely to be used with consideration!

Still really enjoying the game, but it's fricking tough! Even with two players it took us a couple of attempts to reach the level 3 ex, and we got pummeled when we got there :pac:

Thanks Johnny! Mad to try this game now! Was looking for a good co-op with the gf, last one we had a laugh with was watchmen! This looks way better.

I was shocked how tough this game is but still a great game.

Was confused at first how the game saves. So if I pick easy level but then jump out and play it on hard, when I go back into easy the levels I unlocked will still be there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭Bugg

Downloading this at the moment, from the trailers and gameplay footage it looks great. Also, Anamanaguchi, who are one of my favourite bands, have contributed to the soundtrack so I cant wait to get stuck into it.

Aye, bought the Bionic Arm and was tearing through enemies. Still didnt prevent me from taking a ton of damage since my Def was so weak :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,783 ✭✭✭heebusjeebus

Lucas Lee is wrecking my head, i cant get him off that damn skateboard.

    Any suggestions?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 30,015 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Had a very lengthy session last night, and yeah Bionic Arm makes a frickin' huge difference, it's pretty much a necessity (from level 3 onwards). It will allow you to level up enough to just plow through the enemies with all the special moves unlocked. Ploughed through exes 2 to 6. I got as far
as Gideon, but it's a really long level - I got to what appears to be his final form (after the robot section) but he killed me just as he started flashing orange :(
. So powered up I'm looking on this game very favourably indeed, lack of online co-op is the only major fun spoiler, as I had great fun playing local co-op.

    Some fun references:
getting to fight Mr. Chau after he appeared randomly on the world map, the Golden Axe-esque elf that makes an appearance in the forest level, 'Speedy the Porcupine', the constant sound effects that homage pretty much everything.

I shall end on this note: without a shadow of a doubt soundtrack of the year too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭Bugg

Great game, gets fairly tough at times but thats I guess thats expected from a retro-type game. The bionic arm is a must, the game got much better once I bought it, the skill that gives you the ability to hit three times when holding a weapon is handy, kills most enemies in one go.
Been noticing some references to other games, the Mario one is the most obvious with the world map, the star wipes and the doors that lead to bonus areas with the coin boxes. Also noticed a nod to street fighter's Blanka in one of the boss battles. I'm only on the 5th level so I'm sure theres more to come, probably have a missed a few too in previous levels.

    bumpity bump!

Just bought this game as it was on sale on XBL Gold; crashed after 20 minutes. Is this a common problem? No patch yet??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 954 ✭✭✭PaddyBomb

I've never had a crash but I did read a patch is coming out the same time as the DLC. I didn't see it on the store this week but maybe it's next week.

    From Joystig:
Additionally, launching alongside the DLC will come a free patch that allows players to drop in or out of the game at any time while playing offline co-op. The update will also lower the difficulty of the game's (rather difficult) "Average Joe" setting.

    From Joystig:

That free patch is al I want, lack of drop really limited the coop feature and even Average Joe requires way too much level grinding and frustration, especially in later stages.
