    16th July 2010
The Department of Architectural Technology is pleased to announce the commencement of its BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology 1 year part time degree programme with Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
The programme will commence in September 2010 in pilot mode with an initial intake of 15-20 students.
The DT175b Level 8 BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology 1 year part time progression programme with RPL has been designed to enable graduates of the DIT Diploma in Architectural Technology and non-modular BSc (Ordinary) Architectural Technology programmes to achieve the graduate technologist learning outcomes through a modified final year of part time study combined with structured reflection on learning achieved through architectural technology practice.
The DT175b RPL programme will initially operate in pilot mode for at least one year, with admission restricted to graduates of the DIT Diploma in Architectural Technology and non-modular BSc (Ordinary) Architectural Technology, with Merit or Distinction, and following a minimum of two years experience in architectural practice. To achieve diversity in student population, places will be allocated through random selection from all applicants deemed to be eligible.
Applicants for the 2010 pilot programme must apply directly by email to Head of Department of Architectural Technology cormac.allen@dit.ie at the Dublin School of Architecture before 13 August 2010, using the Department of Architectural Technology Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) preliminary self appraisal application form.
The fee for the programme will be €3000.
All information on the RPL programme is available from the RPL summary document on the Department of Architectural Technology website.

Going to be a lot of competition for those 15-20 places, although they do say random selection... I think that means lottery.

Can someone enlighten me please, in this context what does non-modular mean?

    Tom

Now days the course are run in modules, in that you might only cover 2 or 3 subjects in total in a semester and then be finished with that topic for good. From what I gather it doesn't work well in Architectural Technology in that one might learn about BIM in semester 2 year 1, yet not learn about materials and the size of a concrete block until semester 1 year 2.(maybe not quiet that extreme but you get the drift)

Non- modular refers to the old way of learning and putting the information into practice in the projects as one progressed.eg learning about domestic construction and drawing detailing a domestic project at the same time.

On the website it only mentions the level 7 degree as being suitable not the dipolma.
Where did the above text come from?

I wonder if there is a distant option.

That pic is 3 of this 09/10 4th year AT's from this years program. The students (left) discussing a structural scheme with a professional engineer and a professional architect brought in to develop projects

don't know how that photo got out in the wild.

Yeah, I've seen spoken to a person in the picture and he explained it. I knew there was something up as I know one of the people, and he quite didn't fit in.
