lack of track/field on this forum

This is a huge overwhelming lack of threads about track/field in this forum. Is this because most irish athletic interest is in road running/marathons etc or is it that most road runners and marathon runners are members of boards.ie and track/field athletes aren't

The track and field threads tend to be on the main forum page, rather than the events page (this). Bur generally speaking, you're right. The number of threads on the subject is probably representative of the proportion of runners on this forum who are involved in track and field versus road running/marathoning (and maybe representative of runners in Ireland in general (there were 5,000 runners at the 5 mile race at the weekend).

Best thing to do: Start some threads on the subject and drum up some interest/conversation.

Where is the main forum page? i'll try drum up some interest i don't mean to be rude but im sick of going into the A/R/T section and seeing nothing but road running and marathons

It's here (you probably just posted this in the wrong forum). You're right though, the focus is very much on road running/marathons. But there's only one way to fix that!

Were not all road junkies dont worry there are still a few puritans who survive but you are right we are far and few between in here though there are a handful of fairly knowledgeable track guys floating around here who usually pop in on any track conversation:p

I think part of the reason for it is that road running is a lot more accessible than track and field. Anyone can see a random ad for a road race, put on a pair of shoes and run it, while track races tend to be mostly club runners. So unattached runners tend to stay away.

And the odd field guy :pac: However the odd shot putt or high jump thread sinks like a stone. As the previous posters have said it reflects the athletic demographic, not only in Ireland but elsewhere.

I heard these were a Boards legend didnt think they actually existed:p. I agree with what the people are saying would be nice to see alot of the road runners use it as a stepping stone to get in the sport both participation and support. Bit of an idealist

A Boards Team Decathlon or even Pentathlon (Pole Vault would be tricky) perhaps. I'd help organise if we had enough numbers!

Sounds cool! ...and I love the idea of doing the Pole Vault without the bar, though I imagine letting a bunch of idiotsbeginners use expensive poles is not realistic.

Count me in always up for a laugh brings me back to my multi eventing past when i was a kid (long jump, high jump, hurdles and of course distance) one thing i could never get good at was javelin or shot though size and my technique were against me
