    Hi all,
Passed today with a score of 38/40. (which was exactly what I was getting always in the practice ones - of course didn't bother reading the sections on tractors)

Anyway I thought you'd get your learner's permit there and then. (like in the Simpsons and Aunt Patty and Selma in the DMV, they photo and laminate your card and off you go)!

Anyway the Eastern European lady working there said I have to go to specsavers or something, then out to Model Farm Rd!(Cork)

So do I just walk into specsavers and get an eye pass certificate or something, then bring it out to the Model Farm Rd?

    Didn't expect this at all.

You need to get an application for a Driver's Permit (available from any Garda Station or MTO), and send it off to your local Motor Tax Office with your Theory Test Cert, two photos, 15 euro and a letter from any optician saying that your sight is good enough to drive (either with or without correction). Alternatively, you can bring all that into the MTO to save on a bit of time - although, they don't process them on the spot.

In a couple of weeks, your permit will be winging it's way to you!

As was said above but there's a specific form that needs to be completed regarding your eye test
An Eyesight Report - Form D.502. This form is available from your Motor Taxation Office or your registered ophthalmic optician or a registered medical practitioner. A completed eyesight report form must accompany all first-time learner permit applications. A registered ophthalmic optician or a registered medical practitioner should conduct your eye test. He or she should then complete the D.502 form and witness your signed Declaration on the form. An Eyesight Report form is valid for one month from the date it is signed.

Anyone know the damage Specsavers charge for one of these tests?

Wonder why the lady said go to specsavers specifically, must have some little arrangement going on.

It used to be €27 around 2 years ago. Not sure how much it is now.

Shop around and get the cheapest deal, you don't have to specifically go to Specsavers.

I went to the GP for my eye test. (€20) If you have any underlying health problems he will create a letter for you to hand into the Motor Tax office. If thats not needed all you need is your eye test cert, your theory test cert and your learner permits application with two passport pics (need to sign your name at the back - all explained on your first learner permits application) often you need to have your passport or your birth cert to show your Identity. Costs around €15 euro for the application when I did it whether thats the case now I'm not sure. you can get your first learners permit on the spot if you carry all your required docs to the Motor Tax Office otherwise you have to wait to get it in the post! I got it on the spot at the MTO for both my first and second learners permit. less hassle the better!

So can I ask, just out of curiousity, if/when you pass the test, what do you get there and then?

Do they give you anything to clarify that you have actually passed it? Or is it all electronic?

You get the certificate, saying you've passed, I *think* you take that and all the other relevant things (photos, eye report, passport or birth cert) to your local motor tax office and you can get your licence there and then. Been a couple of years since I did mine so hopefully someone else can say for sure.
