    Hi all,

Trying to upgrade a 3GS to ios4, but I'm getting this device is not eligible for the requested build.

    Any ideas?

I am thinking firmware for wrong device. Did you download it seperately, or from itunes update?

I downloaded the Ipsw from apple.

It has never been jailbroken or anything. Very strange!

All posts i see regarding this seem to be people trying to downgrade from 4.0 to earlier versions.

Do you need to go to 4.0 first, before 4.01, seeing as 4.0 is a major release?

No, you don't need 4.0 first, and you cannot even install 4.0 any more (unless you had SHSH backed up).. .

What is the filename of the IPSW? For a 3GS it should begin with 'iPhone2,1'..

    Hey,

Tried again this morning and I'm getting error 3194.

Seemingly this only happens when your trying to downgrade from 4.0.

I'm on 3.1.3 never jailbreak so not downgrading in any shape or form

Very odd. Do you have access to another computer to try it on?

    Yup tried two different pc's.

Updates to iTunes 9.2.1 - no joy.

Looks like I'll have to restore

Have you encrypted your backups by any chance?
