Sorry to post this here if it's not relevant, but I'm slightly confused.I need to get the timing belt done on the motor (nearing 110k miles, last one done at 55k miles). The guy I used for the last service quoted €580 for the job and said it would take a day and a half.Is it me or is that a bit (lot) much? Any advice on a reputable guy to do the job on the North Side Dublin or Drogheda would be appreciated.

He won't be breaking into a sweat with that time line.

I would say 5-6 hours should be close to right for the job if it was just the belt and water pump

Give Walsh motors in Belfast a shout... Had a passat timing belt done there... Top notch work the car was ready to go in 4-5 hours... Cost iirc €350

Euro is weak against the sterling now tho...

AFAIK for the Golf PD engine the schedule is 60k miles (96k kms) or 4 years. IMO you can run another 5k miles if you wish.

€580 is a good price if it includes all the bits. IIRC the Passat is a slightly easier job than the Golf.

€580 for just a timing belt change is madness:eek:

Does it include a service too?
