Wireless Repeater - Wired Hub

Hi all,

I hope to make as much sense as possible (not always guaranteed). I have a wireless network at home using the bog standard BT Voyager wireless hub. I want to setup a wired connection downstairs (save me running a lot of cables), I have a D-Link DIR 635 router. What I want to be able to do is connect the D-Link to the Voyager (wirelessly) and then be able to connect my other devices into this to allow them onto the internet. I thought it would be very straight forward, unfortunately not.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

To do what you describe, you'll need a wireless router that will operate in either Wireless Client or Wireless Bridge mode and unfortunately I don't think that the D-Link router will do either.

A simple setup though would be that you'd only need to run single CAT5 ethernet cable between the 2 routers and then you should be fine.

If you were adventurous type and willing to brick the Dlink(turn it into a brick).
Do at your own risk!
You could attempt to hack the firmware and put DD-wrt on it.

This would allow you to setup as a WDS. I have never done it with a Dlink.

I could try to brick it, but I have it as a backup in case my other router cr@ps out, I'm resigning to the fact that I've going to have to buy some kind of wired-wireless device, does anyone have any ideas on these things? Hi Clareman,

Yes I have set up a WDS Using ubquiti picostations for creating a wireless webcam.

But this picostation hardware only has one ethernet port.

For what you want , I would recommend getting your hands dirty..
