Nothing confirmed yet but I would expect the industry to lobby for an extension over the first quarter.

ya would make sense to extend it...

Any ideas whether scheme might be continued beyond June 2011.

(sorry I have not been keeping up with the news lately, far too depressing)

Not really - people are back to buying cars and most of these are for small poxy things which are predominantly diesel with a low VRT. The gain from the sale would be low. Most people likely to buy a new car will more than likely do so anyhow regardless of the scrappage IMO.

    Are they though.

We have bought the following new in Cork over the years

    17/3/95: 95 C 52xx
    2x/7/95: 95 C 97xx
    1x/06/00: 00 C 246xx
    1x/02/02: 02 C 54xx
    2x/04/11: 11 C 74xx

Obviously no direct comparators, but it seems to me that things are close to mid 90's levels still in Cork.

I didn't suggest they were back at their pre-Bertie-ballsed-up-the-economy level but they are still rising:
New car sales up 14% this year
New car sales rise 5.75% in first quarter
