Right .. DMFs failing on my Volvo V50 ... ffs .. new cars .. I should have kept my Skoda .. at least when something on that broke it fell off and you could keep driving.

So got a quote of 1450 for the following:

Flywheel (Dual Mass) - 506 inc tax
Koppelings set (Clutch kit) 521.23 inc tax

Total cost 1450 inc tax and labour.

Is this a reasonable quote .. rang a local volvo garage just out of curiosity and waiting for them to get back to me with a quote.

That price is about right. DMF's are a costly heart breaker

If you are in or near Dublin try this company http://www.walkinstownclutch.ie/index.php

Used them once for a dmf and clutch on a caddy van, about €900 cheaper than the main dealer.

Shop around , the dmf doesn't know it wasn't fitted by a main dealer.

I know your pain. Had to replace it on my old Vectra. Opel cover 50% of the cost because of the low mileage. 50% was still €600. What mileage is on the Volvo i.e any chance of some goodwill from Volvo?

    try here http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/

I got dmf, clutch and csc for €445, all genuine luk parts (ford mondeo). did consider upgrading to sachs clutch but couldnt afford it. depending on labour costs (i reckon a home based mechanic would do it on a saturday for 200), you should save a decent amount

What year and engine is it?

Phew .. seems to be a misdiagnosed problem, my normal mechanic was unavailable at the time, said i'd wait to see what he said, dropped it down and he said no way is it the DMF, wheel bearing is gone on the front right side, and theres something vibrating near or around the engine, but not the Flywheel, or anything Tranny related, recons it might be a belt tensioner.

Well .. good to get a second opinion i guess !

He didn't have time to fix it then as he's booked up solid all week, earliest he can look at it is on Tuesday.

Feel like going back to the first guy and throttling him for giving me a heart attack :)

Good to hear. I was told my DMF on the old car was on its way, got a good mechanic I know to double check it, again belt tentionser. To many other issues with that car anyway so I moved it on.
