If I buy a secondhand Navara with crewcab for private use can I insure it for private use and keep it taxed commercially.

There are so many of these available they are very tempting.

Are there any legal implications if its only used for private.

    Cheers

    Tony

To tax a crewcab commercailly do you not need to prove you have a certain number of employees ?

Strictly speaking you can only use the crew cab commercially ...that means transporting tools and employees to and from work, nothing else. No weekend driving, no family members, nothing.

Many people still tax them commercially though and use them privately ...some get away with it, others don't.

If cought, you will get done for defrauding tax ...meet the wrong judge and consequences could be quite severe.

FBD said no prob about driving a commercial privately but you have to have commercial insurance(a version for leisure and private use) which has some limitations...can't drive other cars for example. They insure some commercial jeeps privately but the crewcabs have to go commercial.

I don't know whether you'd get away with it tax wise, but I wouldn't go near one if I were you. Crew cabs may look cool but they are without exception ****e to drive. We've an 08 Hilux and I've driven a D-Max and a Navara and all of them are just a pain in the hole, literally and figuratively, to drive over a long distance. It's also tail happier than a dog in heat. Avoid unless you really need one.

I appreciate this...a friend of mine said something similar. Perhaps i should rethink this:)

Don't forget the Navara has a 1 star safety rating. You'd almost certainly be killed in one if you had an accident.
