Just looking for a bit of advise, from anyone who has finished their 1st yr in college. Mainly to do with materials you bought at the start of the year.
Was there a material list handed out ?
I have been stocking up on paper (Sting wouldn't be impressed), drawing eq, A2/A3 pads, a few books.

What are the essentials things you bought ?

    hey chorcai :)

it will probably vary from college to college, but when i went to LSAD a thousand years ago we got a materials list about 2 weeks before the course started. a few things i remember from it were :

A1 drawing board - they said MDF but i got thinner stuff cut to size in a hardware shop as mdf weighed a ton :p i also screwed a handle to one side to make it easier to carry
drawing materials - pencils, charcoal, oil and chalk pastels, putty rubber
    paints - gouache and acrylic
brushes - decent collection of artists brushes but also a set of smaller decorating brushes from homebase or where ever
good quality craft knife with replaceable blades
masking tape, sellotape and parcel tape - or gummed tape - [paper on one side and gummed on the other]
    steel ruler
hardback sketch books in a variety of sizes - the daler rowney ones with the marbled covers are the best as they will take dog's abuse :p
A1 portfolio case to lug stuff round in - invest in a good quality one and it'll last you for years
a good quality toolbox to lug yer materials round - they recommended to us to get a lockable one but just make sure it's light.

that's all i can remember for now really. we got paper supplied in first year but i'm sure that varies from college to college too. other incidentals will crop up as you go like stuff for ceramics/photography/fashion but usually the college should have a shop or else a discount deal with a local art supply shop.

    where you off to?
