Does anyone know of any resort that we could go on with a package holiday which would have a little more to offer than usual....the bf and I have decided to try get a last minute holiday at the end of the month and would like to go somewhere that we could do more than just lie by the pool. Does anyone know of anywhere that you could go visit some cultural stuff for a day or two and maybe do some hiking/snorkling/biking/quad biking etc on some other days. Two full days of lying in the sun is probably enough for us so would like to have something else available to break up the rest of the days....

Any help/advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

What about getting flight-only to Corfu, and then booking accommodation online directly or though www.booking.com ? The North East of the island is very good for snorkling (Kaminaki, Kassiopi, Paleokastritsa). For hiking, Corfu has plenty of mountains and hill walks, but it could be very hot the end of July/beginning of August, so I don't know how practical it would be. Have a look at the website www.agni.gr - its' great, has lots of info and also a good forum for any questions you have.

A nice afternoon/evening trip, is to take a boat from one of the many harbours, and sail into Corfu Town. You'll have 3-4 hours to look around the town, before sailing back to your resort. It's a lovely town, with nice shops and restaurants, well worth a visit.

You also have the opportunity to take a day trip to the islands of Paxos and Anti-Paxos.

All in all, I don't think you would be bored, if you pick the right resort (ie. stay away from Kavos, Ipsos - neon purpose-built resorts, not anyway traditionally Greek, iykwim).

Thanks RubyK. Corfu sounds nice alright. we'd probably book with a travel agent on a last minute deal as trying to get hotels and flights close to the time usually means they are expensive! I wonder would any of the other greek islands meet our needs.

Has anyone any opinions on lanzarote?

Zakynthos is a lovely island. Personally speaking, I would prefer the resorts Tsilivi or Alykes. There are plenty of water sports in both these resorts. The resort of Kalamaki is the nesting ground for the Caretta turtle, so there are no water sports available here. Stay away from Laganas ;)
