What is your preferred style of game play?
    • Playing by myself against the game and the game non-player characters.
    • Playing online with a few other people in groups.
    • Playing online in large massively multiplayer games and joining in groups with other people; or socializing with other players while wearing a cape.

That has to be a trick, this is a MMO beta playing a MMO is what your meant to do.

    You don't wear a cape?

I added the cape part, what i was referring to was how the question in the beta sign up asked would MMO be your preferred game type and as this is an Beta for a MMO you would be advised to say yes.

I would have hoped that Sony would automatically give you access to the Beta if you are a PSN Plus subscriber.

    Are Sony making the game?

Sony Online Entertainment - Austin are the developers and the SOE as a whole are publishing it. It may allow for a discount for the psn+ subscribers.

An MMO with a monthly fee, who would have believed it. the games without fees are mostly made up of instant areas and then you have the micro transactions. A new ip like this when it will be a shared world would always have a fee maybe later they'll make it free with micro transaction but not a launch.

Well not all MMO's have fees, but most do. It's almost a certainty that the PC version will have fees, so the console version most likely will too. Sony would be missing out on a fortune if they didn't. Although, we might find the console fees to b a lot less than standard MMO fees (which are usually about €15 a month), as it's relatively new for console users to get into MMO's and so they'll want to entice people in.

I signed for the Beta, I really hope this is awesome. I've never gotten into a MMO before...but no MMO has had Batman before!

I hope having PSN+ will hep in this, they didn't ask for psn id so it may not happen.

Not interested in the Beta, might pick it up after launch. The obligatory CG story trailer has been revealed:

    http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-who-dc-universe/702049

Not the biggest fan of the extra armour look of all the heroes (and villains), but it's good to hear Conroy's and Hamill's voices in there.

when will we know that we've been picked for the beta?

I think that's because that section was in the future. When Luthor is talking to the three of them at then end they're all in regular costume. Any footage I've seen from the game has them in their regular get-up too.

Well as of E3 the monthly sub has been set to $14.99 on both platforms with no info as to whether PSN+ nets you a discount.

What's most amusing though is the utter shock from people on various sites at the thought of paying a sub to play a game. I know the idea of MMOs on consoles is relatively unknown, with only a handful of titles released over the last few years but still, when you see comments like...
$15 a month? if thats the case i cant see almost anyone buying this. Thats crazy!
    $15 a month or a year????

...you do have to wonder. :o

It's not that surprising that console player are surprised or that there is a sub for a MMO, Pc Gamers had to get used to paid DLC and console users will need to get accustomed to this. i do think a free MMO using mostly instanced areas would be better suited for a console and i think that micro transaction would cause more of a uproar than a sub.

Oh in terms of on the platform sure, but I would have considered that the vast majority of core gamers would be familiar with the concept of a subscription for an MMO?

I'd certainly agree that an instance-based MMO would be logical first step for a fully fledged console MMO but with the DC license behind them I'd say SoE feel they can pull off the full thing.

As for micro-transactions, well we'll see how well they're received when Free Realms goes online in November on the PS3. :)

Anyone who'd applied for the beta heard anything back yet?
(I haven't anyway, and the retail date for the games release is November 2, 2010 so just over a month away.)

    No, not yet.

The PS blog guys said plus members would be hearing about a beta soon but never mentioned what game the beta would be for.

i understand its a mmo and they charge you some way or another , but i dont understand is why would they just make it optional to pay or not , i dont mind losing a few clothes, items, upgrades (etc) if its free , i hope at least i get in the beta to try it out , 49.99 plus 15 a month no thank you

Still no news on the beta and the lack of information is making it worse as I have my Son asking about it several times a day every day :D.

Now I know the monthly sub for MMO games has been around for a few years on the pc but I dont think that I would be willing to pay to play each month.

How does this all work anyway ?

You pay for the game and then get a months sub with it ?

You pay for the game and then have to pay to play right from the start ?

Think this game has just come off the list .

Assuming it's like most other MMOs then the retail purchase will include one months subscription.

Wa on my "maybe -> probably" list, but the recent announcement of no cross-platform play, I'm tending towards passing this one by.

Does he know what a beta is. While getting a glimpse at this in the beta is great as well as free, it is a beta and will be full of bugs and some things won't work. A beta is not a demo and sometimes they are broken as hell.
    Clover wrote: »

If you don't want to pay then you can't play, it's as simple as that for these games. The monthly subscription is the norm for mmos, there are a lot of free games and some games function with free play but you can pay for extra items or improve you characters for money.
I don't know how much money you spend on your kid normally for games but, if he ends up liking this game he probably won't be buying or asking for other games. People play mmos and that one game can be all they play, there is no end in these games and new content will be released all the time.
    Clover wrote: »

If i'm playing call of duty the game is being hosted by one of the players(host) and all the information on what i doing and how it interacts with the other players is being sent to his PS3. An MMO does not have this, the host is sony and a lot more work is needed to be done to allow all those people to play together.
The free games are generally instances based and most the games at most of the time has one of the players as the host, other free games use the same system as stated first but the high cost of this is offset by a large portion of the player base buying hats and thing from the game store for real money.
    Clover wrote: »

The game will come with a code for some time already, the time lenght can vary from as high as a full month, to a week, or with some games a few days more or less than a week.

Thats the problem for me right there for me as a person who does not play mmos, although I can understand it's not a problem for someone who is into mmo games.

Hopefully it's a full month as that may swing it in the end , and after that he can decide himself if he wants to keep playing.

Right so, got the beta code emailed to me after signing up months ago.
Battled through the 15GB download, and I'm starting to get into it now.

has anyone any idea how to invite other folks to your party?
I've mashed all available buttons, have read the official forums and still have no idea!

    14/1/2010

    1 Month – €12.99/£9.99
    3 Month – €34.99
    6 Month – €64.99
12 Month – €124.99 (Available on PC only)
Lifetime Subscription – €179.99 (Available on PC only)

The PSN wallet can't have that much credit put in it so that's why those larger ones are not available, it's also has 30 days with the game.

i'm a real n00b to mmo's, well i had guild wars and i've a copy of wow i've never played, but i'm really enjoying this game. Not for the story or anything it's just mindless fun. I wonder how quickly the novelty will wear off though.
