    Hey,

Playing DCS: Black Shark at the moment. Using Freetrack but not finding it great. Does anyone know where I can get TrackIr in Ireland ? I checked out the naturalpoint website and its looking like its fairly hard to get it here.

    Thanks.

I don't think there is anyone in Ireland who sells them but you can get one from the UK at the link below

    http://www.flightstore.co.uk/trackir-5.asp/simulation

I know two people who bought them and they got them direct from naturalpoint. I just filled in an order form on the naturalpoint website to see what the total with shipping to Ireland was. Note: price includes the track clip pro.

    Order Summary :
    1 TrackClip PRO Black $34.95
    1 TrackIR 5 $149.95
    Coupon : $ -14.95
    Shipping : $57.88
    Total : $227.83

Also be prepared to pay customs duty on it when it arrives.

Bought mine on Ebay, got it pretty cheap if I remember correctly!

Got mine (TrackIR 4 Pro) from Ebay too. :)

Thanks for the info lads. That english site looks like the way to go if I can't find anything on ebay. Freetracks alright but I can never seem to get it working satisfactorily so I figure I'd splash out.

Is there any big difference between having the track clip with the LEDs and the one with the reflective material ?

Yes, the hat clip with reflectors will react (go mad) to sunlight and even the jewellery of other people walking behind You in the room. You'll end up playing in a dark room with the curtains closed. The trackclip pro doesn't have this problem, You can use it in bright daylight.

I got mine last year direct from Naturalpoint and got caught and charged €50 by customs (they just pick a figure), buy in Europe only, even if its slightly more expensive.

    guys,
I see that TrackIR comes with 6' USB cable. What about a situation where you might want to use LED TV as monitor and need a distance greater than 6 feet. Is there a wireless version of TrackIR?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,353 ✭✭✭Heckler

Dunno bout wireless but you could always get a usb extension cable.

    http://www.cables.ie/computer-cables/usb/usb-cables/p32_usb-extension-cable---type-a-male-to-type-a-female.html

Also don't know how distance from the cam would affect the tracking.

i honestly dont see it being useful at such a distance, it exaggerates your head movements, but at 6 feet your head will be facing away from the tv while your eyes are on the tv( thats kinda ok for a screen 2 feet in front of you, but i think it will have issues at your distance ). The most ive tried is 3 feet away from the screen but ive 3 monitors so its not as bad in that context.

I dont know, sure let us know if it works

Ive often wondered how to solve that in a home cockpit/room. Ive always imagined it would be easy to set up a stand or arm to hold the TrackIR's camera at the optimum distance between your head and whatever screen you were using. It should work for any setup ie. large lcd's or projector. Some sort of an adjustable arm should do the trick. Obviously this would only be for a home cockpit setup and wouldn't look the part in the middle of the living room.

What about placing it behind behind you and inverting the axes? That way you get to look really cool with your cap on backwards :)

I never thought of that. I like it, thinking outside the box.

You COULD just wait around for a used deal .I picked up my TIR5 as an unwanted present on adverts.ie for 95 and sold my old TIR3 Pro with Vector Clip for 45 so 50 to change -DEAL!!! .The 5 is absolutely idiot proof and works perfectly out of the box .The 3 requires a bit more tweaking and sometimes you just wont get to see over your shoulder all the way around ...I would recommend you go for the 5 even paying 150-200 euro ...while it SEEMS dear its FAR FAR FAR more important than graphics cards or cpus etc and a fraction of the cost over the years ...Id sooner go back to a 10 year old graphics card than give up my TIR3 let alone 5...
As far as I know the 4 still lags behind the 5 a bit ...DO IT TODAY -Order it !The TIR3 is still a must buy if cash is really tight ...might pick one up for 40-60 euro on ebay.co.uk.The 'clip' is far better than single 'dots ' with the 3

Had someone from here visiting my sister who lives in the US so bought trackir 5 with pro-clip (about 180usd incl.shipping) and got it sent to her house and he's going to bring it back tomorrow. Happy days.

On a downside my gpu has just gone tits up :(

Wouldn't touch PC World with a bargepole. So overpriced. Prob go to komplett or elara. Anyway I'm excited alrite about trackir 5. Also picked up a saitek x52 hotas on ebay. All i'm missing now is the rudder pedals. Will have to wait though, bobs are low!

i actually got a steering wheel, and assigned the foot pedals to the rudder axis.

Kinda surprised more people don't do that...

I've seen this word "Momo" around a lot. Can you explain it to me? Is it an acronym?

So got my hands on trackir5 with trackclipPro. They also provide the reflective hat clip in the package. While twas kinda fun trying to build my own with freetrack the difference is huge.

Didn't get a chance to try it with DCS: Black Shark yet but gave it a spin with the helicopter training missions in ARM 2. Worked near flawlessly straight outta the box. Just need to position the camera better and maybe do a small bit of tweaking with the settings. Takes getting used to but is a blast so far.

Cost about 180usd minus the shipping here. Is it worth it ? If initial impressions are to go by then yes. Its an extravagance I can't really afford but i think i'm going to have a lot of fun with it and it might keep me in from the pub a few nights and if it does that it will have paid for itself in no time.

Upgraded to Win7 and my GPU is fine.
Recommended. I think you can get trackIr 4 cheaper and apparently theres no big difference. As someone said earlier check adverts.ie and ebay and you might get a good deal. I was just too impatient.

Glad you like it, i didnt get the reflective hat thing with my TrackIR5 + proclip, but i dont think it will be missed :).

Its great with codemaster racing games too, although you dont specifically use it that much deliberately, in my replays i notice i look into the corners more( even though i dont realise im using it as its only slight ), adds way more to games. Also Wings Of Prey and HAWX are good fun with it, i think it works best in flying games as its mega looking around to see where the enemy plane has gone.

I tried it briefly with DCS, but thats a game i think i need to put a lot of time into which i dont have at the moment, works great in it too though.

I have a 3 screen setup and its a whole other world in immersion, i absolutely hate games that dont support TrackIR now.

I got mine for 150euro delivered from the US( customs never picked up on it :) )
