New Home Defence Bill

I definately think it is to be welcomed. When an intruder enters the sanctity of your own home, the one place where you really should feel safe, they automatically waive all rights. I'd have no problem giving them both barrels if they refused demands to retreat immediately.

As far as I can tell this bill isn't changing the law in any way, it's only giving statutory effect to decisions the courts have already made.

Can't see anything wrong with the bill itself although I do fear there might be overreactions from twitchy homeowners who wrongly believe they've now been given carte blanche to use lethal force against anyone they think is acting suspiciously around their property.

Probably the wrong forum for this discussion anyway.

It changes very little to what is already established in Ireland.

In the past judge and jury would apply common sense (hopefully) and this new bill recognizes this and gives recognition to past case law

So is it the Judge who decides if the Use of force used was apportionate reasonable in circumstances where an intruder is restrained by the home owner?
