    Hello!!

i have a question about the special rate grant. when i applied for the grant last year my dad was nearly 100 days on job seekers with the welfare and i couldnt get it because he was a few days off it. he is still on it but with my county council they have already automatically renewed my grant,

so my question is would i be eligible for the special rate now? or am i can i just get the normal rate.

also what are the requirments for the special rate grant because i am not quite sure i know its something to do with being on job seekers for a certain amount of time.

    thanks everybody :)

I think to get the special rate grant (the highest amount) you need to have reckonable income of less than 22k (or there abouts) and the college you're attending has to be more than 20 miles away from your home. If there's a change in your circumstances call the VEC, they are really helpful - or send an email/letter - my local VEC is pretty good at replying that way.

    Hope that helps a bit

I'm in the exact same boat so I called the grant office in donegal and they said to send off the renewal form with a cover letter explaining the matter, all the nessecary documents, like from the social welfare office and just include that you want to be reasessed. Apparently its that easy. Hopefully.:p
