Travel vaccines

Going to South Asia in October and am a bit late getting my vaccines sorted. Was told I'd need to get 6 injections from my GP and they would cost just under €500.

Have been checking out http://tmb.ie/ but they have no info on costs. The only way to find out what they charge is to make an appointment (€60+).

Anyone have any dealings with TMB or know what they charge compared to GP's? Or know of any other places that offer the vaccines that would be cheaper than a GP?

    Cheers.

    Firstly, you're not late.

    Secondly, where are you going?

Thirdly, what injections is your GP saying you need? €500 is a bit OTT I think.

China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia.

Hep A and B and a few others. 6 injections in total all given by the GP.

I presume typhoid and tetanus are in there as well. For that kind of money it sounds like he's including rabies? Never bothered with it myself. You'll also have the cost of malaria tablets probably, depending on where you're going exactly.

Op not sure where you live, but I was quoted a similar amount for travel vaccines and a friend mentioned this place in drumcondra http://www.drumcondraclinic.com, I got all 5 injections, 1 as a 3-in1 and the other as a 2in1 and cost me approx €145, and I also got the sanofi travel vaccine certificate which is handy to refer to check what you got!
Its cheaper if two people go at once, so if you arent travelling alone, get your travel companion to go with you.

in terms of malaria tablets, unless you are on medication, most people are fine with doxycycline, which you can buy from chemists in asia far cheaper than you can here in Ireland.

I went to TMB in Stillorgan on Friday and had an appointment yesterday. I got two injections

    1) TwinAd Twinrix Adult (Hep A&B) €48

    2) Revaxis Revaxis - Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio €35

    Consultation fee €60

    Total €143

I've to go back on August 16th for another one, I think it's the second part of the Hep B injection. It'll probably be another €60 plus €40ish for the needle. I was also given a couple of prescriptions for Malaria tablets etc as you will only need them if you're going to certain areas.

Here is the pricelist for TMB - http://www.tmb.ie/exodus/pricelist.asp, shouldn't cost you anywhere near €500, sounds like he's havin a laugh, you should only need Typhoid, tetanus and Hep A which is the usual recommendation for those SE Asian countries. Have a look at the malaria prevelance map (http://www.cdc.gov/malaria/map/) and see if you definitely need malaria tablets for where you're goin.

http://travelhealth.ie/ is cheaper for most vaccinations and is worth a look, just not as well established as TMB.
