    hi,

does anyone know of a cheap or preferably free source of info/downloads on Oracle Financials, to allow me to teach myself the guts of the application?

    cheers

Financials is massive ! It's years since I've worked with it.

Do you mean 'guts' as in how it all hangs together as an app or the business layer?

The former from memory is, would you believe, all Oracle based with forms on top. Most of it is bespoke with shed loads of development and customisation per site.

The business layer is gigantic. There are modules for almost every conceiveable business function.

Sadly, I don't know of any cheap/free resources. Fujitsu consulting have (or had) it pretty much nailed down in Ireland.

Oracle is designed to be very user friendly and some training is usually required in each business as the application can be customized to meet business needs - I'm on the oracle side rather than the accountancy and from what i can see accountants are hired to be accountants rather than systems specialists

Oracle is ok to use once someone has brought you through it, though the one we have seems ancient and slow and annoying
You can learn a lot from playing with it
