Dipped Headlights V Front Foglights

Whats the story with some folk turning off their dipped Headlights at night, & turning on their front Foglights instead

I've always wondered about this 'Irish phenomenon' and I have never had the chance to compare dipped beams to Front Fogs until recently, but last month I got a new Golf with front Fog's, and the other night I deliberately compared my Fog's to my dipped Beams! (No comparisson at all > No contest), the Dipped beams shone twenty feet further in front of the car, & gave much better coverage too!!! So the question still remains "Why do so many Irish drivers favour their front Fogs to their dipped Headlights"

    Yours Confused.

There's a simple formula for this and any other motoring etiquette related questions: Where the question is 'why do drivers do/don't do X on the roads, the answer will be 'because they are idiots' 98% of the time.
