Just talked with a UPC head and they said no hope of having Sky Sports HD for the football in August, Bah was looking forward to watching some crisp football action at the start of this season :( Aww Well

He did say they are in court with sky at the moment, So they are TRYING so lets hope :) , Was told HD movies channels will never happen.

Probably old news but just an update :D

I was told initially that they would definately have Sky Sports HD in time for the new season... (reason I signed up tbf)

Then it was that they should have it by November...

Im giving them until Christmas, then they can get stuffed as far as Im concerned. Im only sorry I didnt tape my initial conversation with their rep because there was a few things he either got wrong or just neglected to mention (like a €60 activation fee for the HD channels).

Virgin Media in the UK have the Sports and Movies in HD from August after winning their court battle, so hopefully this precedent filters through over here.

Virgin media are getting the HD channels as part of B Sky B's acquisition of them.
The court ruling was in relation to the price Sky charge for their sports packages to other carriers and not necessarily the HD version of the sports packages. Sky realise that HD is their trump card over other carriers so they will not make it easy for competitors to acquire the sports channels in HD.

    Sky Premium HD

Get your chosen Sky Sports and Sky Movies channels in crystal clear HD.

Sky Sports 3, Sky Sports 4, Sky Movies Premiere +1, Sky Movies Classics and Disney Cinemagic are only available in standard definition.

    £7.00 a month
for each set top box you want to use for Sky HD channels

On the virgin site, Extra £7 quid, bahhh so i guess we'll be expecting a charge here too then :(

Anyone have any more info here? The only reason I would want HD is for Sky Sports. I juat cancelled Sky (I currently have UPC and Freeview and Sky!). Will hold on upgrading UPC to HD until Sky Sports HD becomes (if at all) available.

    Thanks..

UPC told me on the phone but they are still in negotiation, I wouldn't hold my breath because Sky are not going to want to hand this over so they will want a lot of money for it. They told me they are trying to secure it for January.

Sky did not acquire Virgin Media - they acquired the group of Flextech channels which Virgin owned.

Just saw the new SKY Ireland add, It's probably just the english add with the irish website and phone number..

But at the end it said at the bottom..

Cable customers Contact your cable company to get sky sports 1 & 2 in HD.

Hmmm.. Is it coming to upc??? (i doubt it) or like i said could just be the english add with irish details...

English ad with Irish details I would imagine.

Any update on this lads? Acquired a new tv and it would be criminal not to have a HD package on it. Have UPC and am willing to drop it for Sky Sports but would rather not have the hassel and wish UPC would get their finger out.

    Anybody heard anything new?

No updates so far. For the craic why dont you ring UPC and let us know what BS story they feed you about the HD channels?!!
