Tyres for an Audi A6

The car currently has Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres, 245/45R 17 95Y. Was looking on eiretyres.com there. But the corresponding tyres seem to have extra letters at the end like "XL", "BSW", "RFD", "4PR" and many others. What does this mean and will these tyres still fit the car?

On another note, can someone recommend a suitable tyre for the A6 that is cheaper than the Pirellis?

    Thanks a lot

You could try vredestein ultrac sessantas. They are pretty well priced & are serious tyres.
I think the A6 is fitted with extra load (xl) tyres now from the factory. You might want to check out should you have them or not.

Falken seem to get good reviews.

Some of these additional letters are only relevant in certain markets or they may define the tyre preference of certain motor manufacturers e.g. off the top of my head, XL = eXtra Load, BSW = Black SideWall, N0,N1,N2,N3,N4,N5 or P = Porsche preferred tyres.

If you look at this web-site they should have a full list. Scroll down to

"Additional markings" and click on "Expand / Collapse" or to

"OE Manufacturer Letters" and click on "Expand / Collapse" for further info.

Thats great, thanks very much. I can find no info on the existing tyres or in the manual that says the car requires tyres with "XL" or any other markings on them. Does this mean i am safe to pick whatever one i fancy?

Whats the difference between the "R" and "ZR"?

THe Z signifies anything in the highest 2 speed ratings (W & Y) and is a carry over from a slightly older system I believe.
The tyres you are looking at are Y rated (good for 180 mph approx) anyway so no need to worry about that Z.

I started another thread looking for the same tyres. I was thinking of the pirellis. How did you get on with yours.

falken get good reviews for their price catagory and they are good for the price but your pirellis will be quite a bit better overall they dont compare, as said try the Vredstein good tyre and reasonably priced that or the goodyear Eagle F-1 Asymetric incredable tyre for the money highly recommended , but make sure whatever tyre you go for has xl on it it means extra load and an A6 would need it to be able to stand the weight of the car ;)
