No, firms are open and dealing with matters that don't have to go to court, catching up with other work and preparing matters that will have to go to court. In the current climate you'll have to offer to work for free or you will not stand a chance at getting any experience. If you know anyone in the profession it will be a help. Many places will throw you a few quid for your expenses at the end of your stint anyway. Be prepared to photocopy alot and make lots of trips to the bank and the post office. If you get lucky you will be involved in some interesting things, otherwise simply read files as you are photocopying things and you will still get an idea of what is going on.
