If you're unsure by now SP.. I'd say don't bother!

You've been here long enough to see the pros and cons from everyone.. and if after all that, you're still unsure - you'll probably regret buying it.

I want one but I've waited this long and after seeing the update to the iPhone 4 I think I'll wait a little longer for the iPad 2.

I've a tendency to procrastinate about buying stuff. It took me two and half years to get an iPhone. I've considered waiting for the next gen as well, but that will most likely be next April at the earliest.

Bah, I'll probably get one alright. :D

    Yes, me.

Good news. I'll have to call out to PC World and try one.

I wonder will Xtravision sell the Ipad (I know my local sells iPods). I've a gift card for them I'm itching to use.

Also any idea how the pricing for the 3G version works? Do I have to signup up to a 12 month contract with a mobile operator?

There are rumours of smaller iPads being released in the Autumn or earlier next year too.

Not any time soon. It's going to be limited to select resellers until supply improves.

Not if you don't want to. You are free to pick your own plan and provider, if any.

Yeah, but I think we can file them alongside the iPhone-mini rumours.

I had a fear that if I got my hands on one my bank account would be $800 less almost immediately. For that very reason I've stayed out of the local Apple store and away from friends that have it....

@ Sad Prof, I was the same, I waited for the 3GS before making the leap to the iPhone, despite a lot of my mates having one and I'm glad I did tbh. I just don't want to have to relegate my iPad in 8 months after buying the new one.... and I would buy the new one cause I can't handle iPad envy :)

I'm unsure ---- I'll probably have an epiphany one way or another when I arrive into a shoppe and paw one pre-(potential)purchase!

very unsure! I want one, but whether I'd actually use one enough to justify having it.....

I used one in an Apple store in the UK. Before I used it, I was wondering what all the fuss was and what you would actually use one for.

They're like a cross between a high-end laptop, netbook, and a giant iPhone. But the response times to usage and the display were incredible. Can't afford one at this point (just bought an iMac) but I might down the road.

I slated the iPhone months ago when I read about it :o but, having used one I have to say it's pretty impressive.

Having said that, no way will I buy a first gen Apple anything.

I can't justify €600 for one at the moment. What I need is for someone else to get one, let the missus try it out, and then I'll be sure to be green-lighted.

I'm going to wait for the second gen though.

After getting my iPad 16gb WiFi i have just sold my 2008 MacBook Pro as i did not so much as open it since the arrival.

All my mobile needs have been met. Docs on the go, email, internet, I don't even miss flash tbh. most sites i use are migrating to html5 in anycase.

Air video is perfect so i can access my Server to watch anything i want. LogmeIn gets me direct access to my iMac. And as a bonus i am using it in my work enterprise enviroment to great success with DocstoGo Premium to access files (wifi over cisco ipec conenction)for meetings and do not bring my work laptop around the buliding, I can also present and take notes on the fly... perfect

I use my Nokia N900 as a mobile hotspot so no need for a 3g version when out and about. This was used very successfuly to strream content from my server.

I was not sure if i was going to buy one but now i have it, Bloody fantastic ;-)

Well.. I'd hope it wouldn't serve the same functions as a coffee-maker! :pac:

Yeah, but I suppose my point is, if I have a laptop why would I want one of these?

Well.. I'd argue it's a lot more portable than a laptop. Although one would argue with obvious reduced functionality.

If you have a laptop and you're happy with it, then you don't "need" an iPad specifically.

The same thing could be said of - I have a laptop.. so why would I need a netbook?

Just because its feature set overlaps with that of a laptop doesn't mean it is the same thing. It runs a different OS, a different form factor, it has a 9" touch interface rather than a 2" trackpad. My desktop, laptop and smartphone do many of the same things but I use them all in a very different way.

I'm starting to think that some people were right yesterday and that it will only be available from resellers this Friday, not the online Apple Store. The press release notably excludes the online store. Very annoying if so.

That would make sense if Irish purchases on the store are shipped via the UK dsitribution centre.
They would probably be worried that a release in Ireland would cause stock shortages for UK customers. Because it's OK to screw over Irish customers, we tend to just take it and enjoy it.

Will the networks be offering an iPad plan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Vodafone are already offering data-only plans with MicroSIMs. http://www.vodafone.ie/df/mobilebroadband/microsim/?ts=1279629767483

I assume O2 will offer the same.
