I posted a thread last week looking for a contemporary inset boiler multifuel stove. And it's damn near impossible. I have now spoken to a few suppliers and they have suggested looking into woodburner instead. One man said that our country is very behind with the supply of good dry hardwood for these burners.

Does anyone have one? Whats it like? Is it cheap to run? I need it to heat 10 rads without breaking the bank.

Where can you get good quality burning wood also?

Let see: u want an inset multifuel solid fuel stove to heat 10 rads.

At a quess lets say the rads need 18Kw, excluding the room where the stove is.

Typical stoves work on 2/3 rads 1/3 room so in this case you need a 27 Kw stove which will a big mamma and you will need a big room to take 9Kw because remember of u want 18 to the rads the 9 to the room will be there.

On the cheap to run question look at the SEIA.ie site where there is a spread sheet on different fuels/prices etc.

However remember that heat is energy from fuel and that the cost of energy is roughly the same, the one exception at the mo is gas due to shale deposits in US.

You when look at the efficiency of the rig u have to extract the heat from the fuel.

If want to go wood then it will be something in the garage and not a fancy in-room job

Hi, thanks for your input.. Im so confused. I basically love the look of these inset stoves, but the whole point of getting one is so they heat the house too therefore use less oil! Its only a 4 bed semi dethatched, 1500 sq ft so maybe theres only 8 rads? And I suppose you wouldnt need to heat the one in the fireroom.
Im at buyin stage of the house therefore trying to reserch my options. So what kw output should I look for ?

And stick with multifuel because wood is messy you think? I cant find anyone who actually has a woodburning stove.

I have 2 multifuel stoves but burn nearly all timber, if its very cold then we supplement.

To be honest go stove only for room and use something else for rads, its just too problematic
