I have A LAPTOP (toshiba I THINK) that i picked up at xmas to use for djing on. its running windows 7 64 bit, think it has either 3 or 4 gig ram, the usual specs.

well i have a new midi controller that will only run with xp, so i tried to install xp pro into a partition i created specifically, but i get a blue screen stop message before the initial setup has completed.

could this be because the laptop is running raid (i think)

also, would i be better off totally formatting the laptop and putting xp on, would that work then?

sorry but when it comes to raid drivers and things like that i havent a clue.

    cheers

    rob

    What MIDI Controller?

I'm running all my gear on 7(32) without issues. Officially none of the software supports it but it all works.

    Have you tried compatibility mode?

its an allen & heath xone 3d

the firmware actually needs to be updated on it, this eneds to be done on an xp machine.

but the drivers that a&h claim are for windows 7 (64 combatible) wont run, just gives a "drivers are for 32bit systems" message

    whats compatibility mode?

i was using a xone 1d, but the drivers were unavailable when i bought it so i was using a midi to usb converter and that was working fine.

    cheers

Hmmm, this page warns you to select the correct version(32/64) and yet give you no option when you go to download, weird.

Software testers are running tests on new drivers to resolve x64 emulation issues and news looks positive, although some minor bugs remain that're currently being ironed out.
Having discussed various options with R&D and management, we'd like to make a 'public beta' of this driver available to users at this time.

Consequently updated, beta, Windows7 x64 drivers for Xone:2D, Xone:3D and Xone:4D will be posted, with known issues published, as a new Sticky Topic on the forums, this week.

This does mean a weekend to put them through their paces before we can gauge, or reply to, your initial impressions - so caution will be advised against installing the driver for your next gig - however, we believe a release, at this stage, enables us to demonstrate that Allen&Heath are aware of your frustrations, that the compatibility statement note on future releases is accurate and, more importantly, that it might also offer an opportunity for users to provide, constructive, feedback on the updated driver's performance, prior to forthcoming full release.

    Hope this helps.

That was posted in the 4D Forum but appears to be an issue across the board.

I'd go with the DAW style windows partition, going to give you best performance.

What size drive is in the laptop that you'd have it in RAID?

its a 500gig, partitoned into 2 when i bought it. and i have put a 32gb partition to install xp.

maybe it doesnt have raid on the drives but when i checked the stop message i was getting it said
"when installing xp, the message may be seen when installing xp onto a drive that has raid, if the drivers are not compatible"

now i just assumed that was the reason i was seeing the error?

cheers for the info aswell, will have another look on the a&h site later, theyre forums are fairly sh1te

I've only ever very briefly used RAID, but I think you should see raid starting up every time you boot, just like one line of text before the windows splash screen, but that might just have been the setup I was working on.

That said, I dont see the point in using RAID unless its actually a 750 or 1TB partitioned down to 500 useable. Thats unlikely though.

Some of the lads who know more on the subject will be able to better advise you.
