Im after getting a parking fine in the post. I parked in the cathedral car park (the 5 euro all day one) but Im 100% positive I paid for the parking and put the slip on display on my window. I came back to the car, no notice of the fine or any wrong doing. Now I get a fine in the post.

Any idea where I stand on this, Have I any come back, obviously I have no proof as I have thrown out the slip.

I think that answers your question.

"Do you know that somebody actually complimented me on my driving the other day. They put a note on my windscreen that said: "Parking fine." So that was nice."

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do without the slip.

why not phone them and ask them for proof that you didnt display the parking ticket - if they cant provide proof then you have to option of letting it run to court or pay the fine.

if it goes to court...its basically your word against theirs .... burden of proof on both sides - if judge believes both stories are credible then he/she would have to dismiss the claim.

try phoning the council and saying you had a ticket on the car at the time - if they say that you didnt then you either pay or let it run its course....I had a similar experience in Dublin a few years back - they sent solicitors letters but thats where it ended - they never went any further as they knew it was unlikely to be successful in court.

I'm seriously angry right now. Just rang them there and I have to write a letter to appeal it but I highly doubt I will get anywhere. No harm in trying I suppose. Its only 40 euros but its the principle damn it, the principle.

Unfortunately i am very experienced in receiving parking fines

Usually they take photos of your car and dash, were the parking ticket may be, and post it on their website. Check on the fine is there a website and tyoe in your ref number. Parkies can also sometimes give fines to people that do not have tax or insurance displayed.

Also if you know anyone else that parks there they may have a ticket floating around in their car from that day ;)

    According to our dear GCC,
23548 parking fines were issued in 2009 of which
5000 were appealed and of those
    3600 were revoked.
So you have a 70% chance of success if you appeal.

My mum got a parking fine for parking in Nenagh about a year ago. As it happened the ticket she bought turned over on the dash and couldn't be read by the warden.
She rang them and they said the same -write a letter of appeal etc.
She did this and enclosed the ticket she had bought.
They wrote back and said the warden said the ticket was turned over and couldn't be read. The Feeker!! He knew she had the ticket and still fined her! (tickets are about a euro).
She had to pay the fine!!

It is the responsibility of the driver to make sure ticket is displayed properly. Some cars have a little holder inside the windscreen for this.
I always look back after locking the car to make sure ticket can be seen.

I know its the responsibility of the driver...but sometimes a little discretion is needed.
Power-trips by wardens not needed at all.:D

I agree with Biko that its a drivers responsibility to have the ticket the correct way but the fact I didn't have a fine on the car that day and only received it in the post is pretty infuriating as If I had got the fine that day I could have sorted it out instantly. Now I have no comeback and will have to go through a lot of hassle as a result.
