Public/Cheap course along route from Dublin to Kilkenny?

A few of us are heading to a stag on saturday in Kilkenny and I'm trying to arrange golf on the way down.

Would anyone have any recommendations for a course? We'd be looking for a public course or somewhere cheap and cheerful rather than a decent club, most of which I guess wouldn't likely be available for green fees on a staurday morning anyway.

We wouldn't mind going a bit out of the way (maybe half an hour) if necessary. We'd also consider a par 3 course if anyone had any recommendations.

    Thanks all

There is a 9 hole in carlow, I'm sure its owned by carlow golf club . I played it there on a way to a stag last year ( I think ). Its decent and its perfect for that kind of thing. wasnt pricey either.

Same, I haven't played it but it's a 9-hole pay-and-play attached to Carlow golf club and is only a couple of minutes off the motorway (J4 on the M9) so you won't waste hardly any time at all.

Found it, it's called Oakpark for anyone else who may be interested. 20 quid greenfee. Seems perfect for what we want, thanks lads.

Pococke is a par 3 course on the outskirts of Kilkenny city (just off the ring road) which could be an alternative too. I think it has added a few par 4's but the last time I played it it was an ok 18 hole par 3 course.

Don't want to Hijack or anythin', apologies to the OP, but also headin' to Kilkenny on thursday for a wedding and fancy gettin 18 in early on Friday.Anyone any suggestions?Rather not pay a fortune, and somewhere close the city would be good.Checked out the websites for Callan, Mountain view and Kilkenny GC, any of these worth it?cheers.

I played this place on the way down to Kilkenny once, not a bad place and it's 40 euro according to their website

Can't remember if I played on a Saturday or not but worth having a look at

Kilkenny is a lovely track, Callan & Castlecomber are good aswell, Mountain View is nearly in Waterford, so too far away if your looking for somewhere handy. I'd probably go Kilkenny first choice and Castlecomer second choice.

Kilkenny for convenience if you can get out, Gowran Park or Castlecomer would be next for me.
