Clutch clicking. What should I do?

    Hi
I recently had my car in for a service and since I took it out there has been a click as I am raising the clutch pedal(can't remember it happening before the service)
I can feel it with my foot and there is also an audible click.
What I find more strange is that it is not consistently happening.

Should I take it back to the garage or is there something that I can easily check(I have no experience with these things)

    Thanks in advance

Hello well if you can hear a click in the cabin then it's probably the clutch pedal itself.

If you slowly release the pedal (with car engine off/stopped) can you repeat the problem?

Say for example if you depress the pedal 10 times how many times does the problem occur?

When releasing the clutch does the problem happen at the same point-of-release? i.e. halfway/ quaterway or nearly full out?

Does the problem occur with no car mats on the floor?

    What Make/Model is the car?

What was done to your car in the service?

Sorry for all the questions! :)

    Cheers,

I will have to check these later as I'm in work atm. Will let you know.
Car is a 1.4l 99 Nissan Almera Hatch.
There was a big list for the service at the time though

Would the Almera have a clutch cable, and would that be tightened during a service?

Had a similar situation years ago on an old car and eventually there was a very load click and had to be towed home.

New cable was about £15 at the time, and I even managed to fit the 2nd cable far enough away from the exhaust that it didn't melt like the 1st one I fitted :o

I have lost the sheet with what the garage had done

1: I can repeat the problem releasing slowly with the engine off
2: I did it 10 out of the 10 times that I tried, but I am fairly sure that there times that it doesn't happen
3:It happens about 3/4 of the way up every time
    4:Happens with and without mats

i had this problem with my previous car and the clutch quite literally shattered in the gearbox. Also all the gears actually disentigrated aswell

all down to the lack of gearbox oil when a very reputable main dealer in limerick serviced my car

Is gear box oil easily replaced/checked?
Forgot to mention I talked to the garage and they said that they wouldn't normally go near the clutch in a service

That's good information, so that proves it's repeatable and it's non-engine dependable.

I'll guessing it's a clutch-pedal assembly problem (of course it's hard to be sure without actually seeing your car!)... but I'd say this is not a big issue.

Now I don't know if this clutch is hydraulic or cable operated but now that we know the problem is easily repeatable you're mechanic would figure this out in 10 mins. I would expect an easy fix so don't worry.

    Best of luck,

I just hope its not too expensive because I already have to replace the steering fluid pipes which have a very slow leak(quoted €250 for parts and another €120 for work).

My car just seems to be falling apart.

Sorry to hear that... Just out of interest are you going to a main dealer or a local independent mechanic/garage?

I'm going to a Local independent. I am probably going to have a look in some of the scrappers for the steering fluid pipes before bringing it in. They said its safe to drive as it is so I will check around before fixing it
