Audi A4 RCL / Key Problem? Cant get into car.

Small problem with my 2002 Audi A4 this morning, I couldn't open it!
Pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob has no effect.
Also, tried to use the key to mnaually open the drivers door but this also did not work.

    Two extra pieces of info:
    * The Red LED that's visible on the door just inside the drivers window is not Flashing Red but rather is constant red (can not remember if this has always been the case)

    * I can open the boot manually with the key....

There were no warning signs for this, car was idle for the weekend, problem just occured this morning.

Does this sound like the battery in the Key Fob simply needs replacing or am I looking at a bigger, more expensive problem...

Spray some wd40 into the lock and give it a few minutes and try key again.
Heard this on a few sites before.

do you have AA or other as they will get you into the car

Light should never be constantly on, always flashing.

Thanks for the reply. Will try the WD40 solution this evening.

Have breakdown assist on my insurance policy so that'll be the next port of call.
Bit worried about the constantly on LED, afraid something jammed in the door/CCU
