I've had the car for a little over three years, and put up 80k miles on it. No major problems yet, should I be thinking about trying to trade up to a newer year?

Car is still in excellent condition inside and out, and serviced every 10k miles locally, think I'd get much for it?

You'll get f all for it, best thing to do would be to keep it and hope to throw another 80K on it without major probs.

If it ain't broke then don't fix it.

It will be worth sweet feck all as a trade-in btw.

Yep. Doesn't seem to be worth that much.

Me: How much will you give me for the car Mr Car Man?
Car Man: How much Diesel is in it? Any change down the back of the seats?

Seriously though, the car is mint in and out. And one crowd offered be 2500 for it! :D

Would have worked out cheaper for me to drive to the airport, burn it out, fly to UK, and get a used one there, rather then trading it in here.

I got it serviced yesterday by a mate of mine, says it's driving like a new car.

Think I'll see can I hit the big 250, and buy me some leather seats from a scrapyard.

    .

At the end of the day, it's only worth what the next buyer is willing to pay for it. Try and forget it's your car and ask yourself realisticlly how much of your own money you'd be willing to part with to buy it if someone else was selling.

Mileage would probably make me run a mile. :D

At least I know the car, and can guess it will continue to be a solid car.

At least keeping it I won't have to fork out thousands. Until something big goes bang anyway¬ :)

Local taxi company near me have a silver and a maroon one. I was in the maroon one last August and there was 348,000 miles on it then, original engine.

I actually saw it this morning as well, wonder whats on it now.

    2004 model as well.

Question for OP and the other diesel mega mileage people....sure the engines can do the 150k +++ thing but surely shocks ,starter ,clutches ,gearboxes and my real pet hate , bushings are hanging out of the car at this stage or certainly not long after...

Thats not really a big deal. "Engines" as such dont really go, it's the ancillary bits and the rest of the car thats the issue.Spose it depends on how much of under the bonnet you count as the engine or how much of it you can change without considering it a new engine. The engine is just a big lump of metal.:)

I'd say much the same as the rest, if you aren't sick of it and its sound & reliable then hang on to it! If the avensis is as bulletproof as the carina was, you should see plenty more years of driving.

I replaced my glow plugs around 100k miles. Gear change still nice and smooth. Clutch on the diesels are notoriously heavy, but working fine. Not 100%, but probably a little work. Bushings are fine. As my mechanic mate said, it's driving like new. I'll have to do the timing belt and water pump next service, but I think with regular maintenance it'll keep going just fine.
