Hi, we are clearing out a deceased relatives house and have quite a collection of miraculous medals, blessed statues from Lourdes etc. None of the family wishes to keep these but we would like to pass them to someone who would appreciate them, can anyone tell me what we can do with them? Thanks in advance.

Charity shop maybe? Presuming you want rid of them quickly. If you don't mind holding onto them for a while you could try ebay or something similar.
Or, offer them to the neighbours, friends of the deceased. The older ones in particular might be appreciative.

Your right to get rid of them.
Personally id through them out rather than giving them away to anyone.
The bible forbids keeping such items.

dont throw em away thats horrible,,,
,no one WORSHIPS statues, we use these images for honouring cetain saints, christ himself or angels and the blessed virgin, just as people honour a great public servant or leader with staues which again are used to honour people NOT worship them...therefore theres no sin of idolatry involved, if there was we wouldnt have them at all.
They only remind people of that persons or christs virtues and life for inspiration.

so give them to their neighbours or keep a couple wont do anyone any harm

    CHEERS

I noticed from your post that you mentioned blessed statues.
    Who blessed them and why?
Ive talked about this in other threads and some people mentioned that statues, holy medals, and rosary beads were only used as aids to help concentrate when praying.
Point being the bible tells us not to make any images of anybody in heaven. Forgetting about idolatry for now, making statues or pictures or anything else that is meant to resemble anybody in heaven for aid or honoring is wrong.

Exodus 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself an idol, OR any likeness of what is in heaven"

I have to ask, do you do everything else the Bible says, especially the stuffi n the OT?
I'm actually surprised to quoting the OT, most Christians, reasonably enough in my opinion, ignore most of it.
Anyway, the point is moot. The OP doesn't want to throw them out. Your post is kind of like going to Motors and telling someone looking for advice on a new car not to get one because they might die in a car crash.

    No we don't.

    No we don't.
Well, I mean it in the ignore the "stone your disrespectful sons" sense. There's plenty of admonitions and orders that aren't adhered to by even the most extreme Christians, surely?

The answer to your question would have to be yes i try.
The bible quote i used above is taken from the 10 commandments, the second to be exact.
If we were to disregard these commandments then would it be OK to steel, murder, commit adultery and so forth?
I do realize that some OT laws do not now apply due to the ransom sacrifice of Christ.

We don't adhere to numerous laws from the OT for a reason (old covenant superseded by new), not simply because we find them distasteful or even disturbing. It isn't quite the a la carte selection that your post seems to imply. But we have been over this many times before, no?

Ive heard this debatemany many times many over years which is been pushed at all Christians and Muslims for many years now and when I was praying recently this came to me and felt need to write it down .An ex girlfriend nearly knocked the head off me over this debate as she was adamant of becoming a Jehovah Witness. There seems to be a concerted effort to discourage people from sacraments in church and lighting candles to saints and Our Lady by maintaining it is idolatry. This is plain rubbish and always will be.No catholic in this world will stay a catholic if he worships a statue it will go against the Holy Spirit which resides in all catholics hearts. My argument against idolatry is below :

In the same way we feel the need to know what time it is .How do we know what time it is ,the watch tells the time but is the watch Time no the watch is a witness to what time we are witnessing at any stage of our lives .So in the same way a statue of Our Lady and Jesus reminds us of ever presence of their Love and Glory ever present to enter and give us comfort and guide us in our lives like what our fathers and mothers on earth do only God Father to all of us ever merciful and only just after.

The Love of God wipes out all darkness in our hearts .Our Lady is untying knots in all our hearts preparing the way for Jesus her Son to enter and heal us ,bring us peace Focusing in on idolatry is not going to help each other .No catholic idolises a statue its a means for us to feel and worship God and remind us of presence of Our Lady and Jesus are right beside us all the time protecting us ,guiding us and Our Lady interecedes for us before God the same as angels and saints of heaven .

Thanks Nevore, charity shop is probably the best idea.

It wasn't my intention to start a deep theological discussion, I genuinely just wanted to know what to do with these items. They were not mine, no idea who blessed them, why or where and I won't be worshiping said items.

    Thanks all for helpful replies.

It is difficult to avoid tangents around theses parts :)

Yes, topic for another day/thread. In my defence, the other guy started it! :pac:;)

No worries. I'm a hoader at heart, and hate to see anything go to waste that someone might find use/enjoyment/pleasure in.

It yields as much, if not more, fruit as poison though imo. :)
