First things first, LED is the type of backlight in an LCD TV, it's not a separate display technology; regardless of what any marketing might indicate. As such, LED LCD TVs are supposedly meant to offer better colour reproduction than CCFL backlit TVs, the kind used in most LCD TVs, which, in turn, delivers better image quality. In practice, there can be issues with this type of backlight since a lot of manufacturers are using side-lit LEDs in their displays and this can lead to uneven backlight uniformity which can be evidenced in inconsistent black levels.

Your best bet is to read reviews of any TVs you have in mind, I thoroughly recommend perusing HDTVTest, so that you can find out which TV performs best for your needs and then view the display(s) in a store so that you can find out in person whether you like it or not.
