Can I find out the owner's name and address from the registration number? A white van continually blocks the entrance to our Scout Hall... We want to write a letter to them asking them to desist from parking in front of our gates. Would Dublin City Council provide us with details? (The van doesn't belong to any of our immediate neighbours)..

The general public can't find that information out and Dublin City Council doesn't have it to provide.

If they're blocking an entrance DCC may be able to help in other ways, though.

Could you just not write a letter and leave it on the windscreen?

I'd start with a polite note under the wiper.

I would literally write the letter on the van :pac:

call the local garda station if it's blocking an entrance

The Data Prevention Act will prevent you from finding out the registered owner.

Is there a "No parking in front of entrance" sign up on the gates? If not the van owner may not think thta the entrance is being used. Not sure of the in and outs of it so it might be worth checking with your council about what is needed, ie do you need their permission to put up such a sign or not.

If you can put a no parking sign up and they persist in parking there then you may be in your rights to have the van removed.

buy a clamp...or leave a notice threatening clamping. I believe the gard would act if he is blocking your access...or the council, tell them its a fire lane...

You should pen a polite but firm letter outlining your valid objections to their thoughtless parking and general inconsideration.

You should attach this letter to a cinder block. Carefully put the block through the windscreen.

It is an offence to block a vehicle egress or ingress. You can take what steps are necessary to remove the obstruction.
The Gardai have the power to prosecute and/or remove the vehicle.
You also have the power to remove the obstruction.
