Looks set to sign next week for the Taunton side. Best wishes to him, he certainly looks like one for the future and can only help him develop into a quality player.

Dockrell has all the potential to be a top class spinner. Playing regular county cricket can only help that.

As with any of our players, I do fear for the outcome of too much exposure to the ECB however...

It was only a matter of time before this happened. Apparently they were tracking him since he was 15.

He's a good player and a nice lad, so I really hope it works out well for him. I'd also hope he has a contract similar to Paul Stirling's, allowing him to play for Ireland on a regular basis, but I didn't see any mention of it in the various articles.

Losing him now will be a blow for Leinster though.

Provided he can play for Ireland this would be great for Ireland....Over the next 4 years anyway.

    We shall see after that.

Best of Luck to him, hopefully he can keep developing in England. They haven't really had a great record in the last 20 years with developing there own spinners so dont be surprised if they do poach him within 4 years if he continues his progression.

Hopefully by the time he qualifies to play for England he wont need to...!

Well South African spin bowling isn't really that good and that seems to be the main England talent pool these days.

Last I heard Ireland had submitted an application with the ICB for One Day Status so Test cricket is a good while off. Malahide seems to be earmarked as the main Cricket ground for Ireland.

So it depends if he considers Test cricket as the pinnacle of a cricketing career or happy to stick with One day Cricket.

Ireland already has ODI status; its test status we applied for (or set the ball rolling on more so).

It was more tongue in cheek really; I dont really expect Ireland to have test status in 4 years time! It would be nice tho if we were far enough along the road to it that players like Dockrell wouldnt have to feel their only option should they want to play test cricket is to declare for England.

Sorry I thought Ireland only had temperory ODI status due to there recent good performances and had applied to make that status permanent this year. I must have totally got the recent interview that Jonathan Agnew conducted at the interval at the Ireland v Aussie game with I think the chief executive of Irish Cricket totally wrong.

While I too would love to see Ireland play test cricket I think it would require more than one major ground to attract new spectators and sponsorship to the game. Part of the beauty of cricket is playing on the different grounds and the varying conditions, it be kinda boring to play a 3 match series on the same ground.

Also you would need to strenghten the cricketing structure below international level to allow for late developers etc. So maybe in 15 years time!
