I know all here are camskill customers but I always thought they wernt great value until i noticed you can buy the tyres less vat as I am registered for vat.

Anyway I was looking at Bridgestone Potenzas. They are 235/45/17. Has anyone used these. What do you think of them. I have sunnys/triangles on now and they are sh1te. Dont ever buy them...

I ran Bridgestone turanzas and potenzas before, both pretty good tyres.

Depending on price and availability, also consider

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta or Falken FK452, read good things about both on other forums.

The falken would probably represent the best value.

I had them before on a few cars they are good in the wet but brutal in the wet , Michelin Pilot sport 3 are the best available at the moment I put on Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric on my current car a BMW 645ci and they are brilliant , I'm not a fan of the bridgestone potenza completly overhyped the Michelin are the best

I have just put Bridgestone Potenzas on my A6 (225/50/17) and find them a huge improvement on the Goodyears that were previously on it

As the other poster noted try alloy wheels.ie for prices (ask for Keith) - i got mine for €50 a tyre cheaper than camskill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

    I would opt for these:

    http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m54b0s312p12410

The reviews I have read have all been positive and they are good value imo at €111 inc VAT per corner.

I've just put two Falken FK452's on the front of my GTI. Bit early for me to really comment on them mind, but I've certainly no issues with them. I still have two Potenzas on the rear, and one thing I will say is that the rim guard is bloody fantastic! Almost non-existent on the Falkens, but very pronounced on the Potenza and not only does it give great protection from kerbing, but it also gives the wheel a much fuller look.

falkens seem to be a very 'narro' fit for the size, from my experience with them id almost go a size up on the width, i.e 275 if your normal fitment is 265

I will choose between the three listed above. How much is 5 part worn triangles/sunnys worth. Only about 5k on them.

Michelin Pilot sports are as soft as butter......very soft compound that wont last pissing time on a Diesel (due to being front heavy). I had 225/45/R17s on my car for a few months I would go with a harder compound....the michelins arent cheap either when I priced them about 2 years ago. Im due a set of four tyres in the near future and Id say ill be heading down the Bridgestone route.

haha you must be joking bridgestone are utterly rubbish crap grip and i went through a set in 9000 miles on the drive wheels and 14000 on the front and that was a petrol car i would never touch them again and im talking about Michelin Pilot Sport 3 which only came out in the last few months so unless you were tracking the car you couldnt have burned out a full set , they get much better reviews that the older PS and PS2 for tyre life , i had Michelin Ps 2 on my old Bmw 330d a 3 litre diesel engine and they lasted 17000 miles on the drive wheels and 21000 on the front

and when you go for a harder compound you loose grip especially in wet conditions

Hard compound = more miles on a set of tyres, but Less grip
Soft compound = less miles and More grip

up to you but id rather have a set of tyres that do there best to keep me on the road and alive but burn out 3000 miles faster than a cheap set that last forever but you cant drive in the wet or faster than 40 mph or if you do your dead

Some user reviews tend to suggest the opposite.

I found this site to be an excellent source for when I was narrowing down my options. Incidentally I had decided to go with the Vredestein Sessantas but they were out of stock so decided to go with the Falkens.

Had a set of 4 of PS2.......were on the car when I purchased it. Had 7mm of thread on the front when purchased had approx 2mm when I changed tyres 4months later. As far as I remember the price per tyre was something in the region of 170euro per tyre (height of the boom).

Thats intresting. Dont know what to do know. Had Pirelli on my audi so I might go for them.

I don't think you can go wrong with the rubber you get for your buck with the Falkens. However if I was buying 4 new tyres for my car in the morning, I'd probably favour the Vredestein Sessantas, simply going on the outstanding reviews they've been getting.
