Music at GAA games?

Can someone please tell me why they never ever play music at games like they do in nearly every other sport in the world?

The song they play after every single game in Croker is like something you would hear in an old folks home.

It might sound like something pointless but it would be nice to hear some music over the speakers before games with songs from the represented counties to get the crowd going.

Go to Tuam Stadium and you'll be treated to a mix tape of chooones from the 1940's!!

Do hear ceili music at half time in Thurles at times...i agree in fairness, doesn't really hold any appeal to young impressionable kids.

Be a good thing to do, promote some local music and create a bit of a buzz but dont think the sound systems would be up to scratch!

who gives a shit? i dont know about you but i go to matches to watch the games, and at half time maybe go to the toilets, buy a lock of sweets, talk about the half that went by, discuss what might happen in the next half. the latest choons arent exactly high on my or the majority of others agendas.

some people just arent happy unless they are complaining

Do you mean: 'May We Never Have to Say Goodbye'? The Athletes' Song of the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games which was released as a single on May 23rd, and performed by Ronan Tynan, Rita Connolly, the National Symphony Orchestra, many of Ireland's finest traditional musicians, a pipe band and a choir of 500? The song that was performed at the Opening Ceremony on June 21st 2003 in Croke Park, Dublin by 7,000 athletes and 65,000 members of the audience? The same 'May We Never Have to Say Goodbye' that spent over 3 weeks at number 1 in the Irish charts?

What a song!! Oh wait no, absolute pants..

Haha I'm exactly the same. Everytime I hear it I just think of another Championship down the drain, especially since the one time we didn't have to leave gutted they played Ronnie Drew instead!

Music can influence peoples emotions, ... can add to the whole atmosphere of a match.

I think you've been watching too much English soccer. I actually like being able to chat to other supporters prior to a game as opposed to having the latest chart rubbish rammed down my ears..

I imagine they don't want to have to cough up the necessary financials to IMRO which would be necessary if they wanted to play music.

The reason the bizarre unknown stuff gets played the odd time is most likely that the copyright has expired on it.
