    Hi guys,

My guitar amp decided to commit hari-kari on me yesterday, and since its so old, Ive decided that instead of spending €100 to get her fixed, Id rather use the money to getting a new amp.

I was on adverts.ie and thomann all morning, but to be honest, when it comes to guitar amps, Im a little over my head! Theres just too much choice really and Im not sure which are the ones I should be keeping an eye out for...

Im looking for something that I can use for gigs, rehearsals and recording but that wont break the bank! I dont mind if its a head & cab or a combo.....as long as it sounds good thats all that matters for me.

I would be probably playing heavier music through it ala the styles of Deftones, Muse, Fightstar, Dream theater......but I would also like to be able to get a really nice clean tone from it as well....kinda like Tool if you know what I mean....a combination of clean and heavy.

As for price, well thats the main issue. Im looking at €700 as a ball park figure which I could probably go a little higher if absolutely necessary. Ive no qualms about getting second hand gear as long as its in good nick.
    Thanks for reading! :)

Maybe one of the new Blasktars?

HT Sudio 40, or the 60 Watter. They had nice cleans, plenty of headroom, and quite modern sounding gain.

I was a little turned off because it was pretty much just clean cleans/big and heavy, not much in the way of clean breakup, light overdrive and mid gain, but for what you want it could work really well.

Blackstar amps are amazing ive got the 200 watt series one head and its an absolute monster.you should check out the 45 watt 2x12 combo, its priced abit higher than 700euro but there amazing sounding amps to suit alot of musical enviornments.

I'd third that. Tried the Studio 20 and the Club 40. Incredibly amps.

There's much more flexibility with the 40 though. You can get a pretty good Vox clean and crunch with the character buttons and the additional dark/bright reverb switch is fantastic.

The only thing is there's a big size and weight difference between the 20 and 40 watt. The 20 is great very compact with a 12" Celestion so you have ease of transport/storage without losing and tone with a gammy 10" speaker. However if you are looking to deafen people, or play very large halls without micing, you may find your sound lost.

The 40 watt for all its flexibility is a behemoth and much bigger than the 20 watt in size and weight so it'll be difficult to shift around but you do have that ball shaking power.

    Either way: go Blackstar!
