Misspelled name on Ryanair.

    Hi all,

Slight worry for me. Booked flights to Bratislava and back for myself and the gf recently. I spelled both our names correct going out, however I'm after making a mistake with her return flight (booked seperately), she's coming back on the 30th of July but I'm after swapping two letters, basically her name ends in 'ska' but I've put down 'ksa' - don't know how the hell I managed to do it, pure human error.

I'm going to ring the customer service team tomorrow and see if they can help me, can't really pay 100 euro for what isn't much of a name change, just an obvious spelling mistake. If she goes to the airport she can pretend she didn't know so I don't see any sense in paying 100 euro now when she might have no problem.

Anyone with any previous experience or advice welcome :)

Most ridiculous statement I have ever read in relation to talking about Ryanair.

It shouldn't be a problem, flying back home one time I entered my shortened name instead of my full name (which appears on my passport). I was told at security check to go back to the Ryanair desk to get it changed, expecting to have to pay through the teeth for it. However the person there just crossed out the name I entered, wrote in the new name and beside it wrote 'ok passage'. I didn't have any further problems getting through.

My brother had similar experience, he clicked Iran instead of Ireland on his
online check in. They simply changed it for him at the check in desk and no charge !!!

If you ring Ryanair, they will charge you to change the spelling. Dont bother to ring. Turn up at the airport and I'll bet you will have no difficulty.

For the last 2 Ryanair trips i've used my short name- think like terry instead of terence and no-one has paid any attention at all.

Would be extremely surprised if it was spotted at all

It is often very difficult to see replies which occur after your own response...

Absolute nonsense. There have been a multitude of posts here about situations similar to this, where people have typo-ed names and Ryanair has adjusted the spelling when called.

General rules with airlines is that 2/3 letters that are an obvious error and don't completely change the name will be switched

Thanks everyone for the replies, not too worried about it now, I have no problem spelling her name, which is Slovak.. it's just I typo'd the k and the s in 'ska' - if it is noticed I'm sure there'll be no problem, she's a charming girl and she'll be travelling from her own country.

Thanks BuffyBot I will ring tomorrow.

I did the exact same thing with my name on a ryanair flight, and it was fine. I think it just wasn't noticed.

For years I booked flights for my husband with his own english christian name, we spotted last year that his passport says Pól instead of Paul, we've never had any problems, even when flying to the states! I wouldn't even ring, I would just show up and plead ignorance if it comes up at all!

Editing it using a PDF editor does the job as well.

Name changes are so expensive because Ryanair want to prevent a travel agent from snatching up all the cheap tickets in the name of "John Doe" and then reselling them, changing the name to that of their actual customer. If you are fixing a typo and it is obviously still the same person , Ryanair have no problem doing it for free. If it smells of you trying to sell the ticket to someone and changing your name to theirs, you will be charged an arm and a leg. So as long as it is changing -ksa to -ska, you will be grand for sure. On top of that, you are likely to get an Eastern European on the phone anyway when you ring them and they will be perfectly aware that there are no names ending in -ksa, only in -ska.
