Hang on, hang on ...that's no jet engine, that's a gas turbine.

    more like this:

and this is where it came from

Love this line from the wiki article "The engine would run on virtually anything and the president of Mexico tested this theory by running one of the first cars—successfully—on tequila."

Wow - I'm suprised the auto box can cope with that engine.

    Must be a small jet.

On paper it does not seem that quick for a jet engine, would the original 928 engine not go faster then 160mph?

Gas Turbines will run on Diesel or Petrol.

They have fecking shocking fuel consumption in traffic though ;)

This bikes been around a while, Jay leno has one:
    http://www.marineturbine.com/motorcycles.asp
Engine: Rolls Royce Allison, 250 series gas turbine
    Power: 320-hp @ 52,000-rpm, (286-hp @ rear wheel)
    Torque: 425-ft/lbs @ 2,000-rpm

As a rule though, Gas Turbines are rubbish for start stop, and more suited to Gas fired power plants ! :)

Properly speaking it's a turboshaft engine. Fuel consumption would be stratospheric, the noise would be painful but... but... I want one. Now. You can actually see what it really it in the pic - it's a massive turbocharger bolted to a set of reduction gears and on to the car's autobox.

The 928 is so much more subtle than the Beetle. Why a Beetle? Ugh.

Nope. The first generation (the car in the ebay ad) had only 240BHP and the US version only 220BHP - this was enough for only just over 150MPH for the US car.

The second gen (S2) had 310BHP - substantially more...

    riddiculous as it is...

    I still want one :)

How could the Porsche driver see properly with the two hot exhausts right in front of the windscreen? Or are they just for the 'flamethrower'?

I don't think he can. I doubt very much the car is street legal, probably just a project / show car?
